Can you mount from the ground?

I have never liked mounting from the ground for the sake of my horse's back and the saddle but I used to be able to mount from the ground until I broke my wrist 6 months ago.

Since then, I can't bear the strain on my right hand needed to hoist myself up, so if I have to get off on a hack (opening cattle grid gates, etc that don't have horse handles), I have had to train boyo to stand next to the gate so I can climb up it to get back on.

I can get on my 17.1 warmblood from the ground(i am 5ft 9 and weight 8.5stone). however i choose not too unless out on a hack as i dont want to pull his back. I am really lazy and can also get on without letting the stirrup down either. We did used to valut on ponies etc and do things such as half scissors, full scissors etc when i was very young. i used ti ride a 17.2 horse when i was 8 too and also used to take the children back with me when we went hunting and i took those back who went home at lunch time. someone alwasy fell off and you have to get them back on pony then get back on yourself while looking after about 6 others.

I don't like mounting from the ground either because of hurting their back, but when you get a particularly uncooperative gate needs must. My boy is quite good at standing so I can do gates but there are the odd buggas that you need to do from the ground.

Luckily I don't have to let the stirrup down and there is always someone to grab my other stirrup whilst I'm mounting. I do try and look for aids to assist tho ie tree stump etc
