directly into a liquid and then add it too feed?

Tried all sorts of ways to disguise it but he still won't eat it not even when I add a fair amount of molasses or hide it in an apple

You can get bute already in a syringe/paste from the vet. So maybe give them a ring and ask them.

vet told us to mix it with natural yoghurt or fromage frais and syring into mouth as it will make it sticky so they cant spit it out

You can get a variety of bute that is more acceptable to horses that hate the taste of the normal stuff - called Danilon - ask your vet for this instead.

Mine seems to have got use to it. I had a few feed trugs kicked over initially but the best was a spoon of jam(strawberry or raspberry), chopped apple and pony nuts which were soaked in a bit of water.

This seemed to work for mine. Now its just the powder in pony nuts soaked. He eats it now.

I was going to suggest danilon too, and it's not even that much more than normal bute!! Bout 10p or something silly

open the sachet and widen the hole so powder comes out easily - hand in his mouth grab tongue lift it up and pour powder under tongue saliva will make it stick. Easy peasy - no messing :D

I was also going to suggest Danilon! One of ours can smell bute a mile off and we tried hundreds of ways to try and get it down his neck - the one time we managed to syringe it in, he was a total drama queen, flattened us both and then proceeded to go on complete hunger strike for a week and wouldn't let us near him!
I asked if we could give danilon a try instead, and wish I'd asked sooner - he is the fussiest horse ever, refuses to touch any kind of supplement or any chaff other than happy hoof - but you can put danilon in his feed and mix it in with nothing to disguise the taste and he'll eat it without question. Does look a bit radioactive but definitely a success, might be worth a try!

try mixing it with a bit of warm water and syringing it in to them like a wormer. Or try mixing with oil and make in to a paste and syringe it, or you can mix it with apple juice

If not as above- try Danilon, much much more palatable- mine won't eat normal bute but has always eaten Danilon. They also make bute in a wormer type syringe if they don't have Danilon but tbh most vets do!.

Good luck, it's annoying when they won't eat their meds so know how you feel- one of mine wouldn't eat his antibiotics recently so i was having to inject him instead!

It's difficult to disolve but I found mixing it with some peppermint oil and warm water makes it tastier.

Use a large worming syringe, put in the bute granules add warm water and two or three drops of peppermint oil. Put in the plunger carefully and then keeping your finger firmly over the point shake to mix, then give like a wormer.

Reward with strong peppermints before and after, some people swear by placing some Vicks up the horses nose before feeding as it masks the smell of the bute. Not tried that one personally but keeping it in the box of tricks for a future date - having a Clydesdale means that if it is food it gets eaten!
