For a horse who scared when travelling, we can get him in the box but when hes is hes petrified and when travelles comes out shaking and dripping (and i mean dripping) with sweat. tried travelling with another horse that is a perfect traveller and still the same results.

He doesnt need a calmer generally so it would just be on an as and when basis. someone suggested blue chip calmer but i think you need to give that on a daily basis.

Any ideas please?
 
if you aren't competing id go with ACP from the vet.

TBH most calmers only take the edge of, and aren't really much use in those situtations.
 
^ I was going to suggest this, haven't used it personally but have heard a lot of good things about it.
I used to use the global herbs instant calmer with my last horse - I gave her it before farrier visits as she didn't stand still (ever!) and it worked really well for her, but does nothing for my new one - so I think that as with all calming supplements, it's a case of trial and error until you find something that works for your horse - quite a few people recommended us Oxyshot for our stressy traveller but haven't used that one yet.
If he's really scared of travelling I don't think a calmer will do the trick completely, though the right one will help. Is it just when the box starts moving that he worries? What does he do exactly? x

He is a bit hesitant going in but will go. he seems to panic when we start to move but hes not acrually scared to go in . if that makes sense? He doesnt do anything just stands there but has always came out sweaty and shaking like a leaf. i could understand if he was actually scared of the box but he doesnt seem to be. i would really like to get him out to some shows but dont want him upset evey time he goes somewhere!
 
Last year I had the same problem with one of my mares. She was happy to load and came out calmly but when travelling she would throw herself around the trailer.

I would check out the trailer for any noise or movement. Try travelling the horse without a partition incase he needs more space.

Horses move a far amount when travelling so using their quarter muscles a lot. Magnesium in needed for muscle function. Calmers that contain Magnesium are only replacing what the horse is short of.

Using instant magnesium calmer will not always work. You say you do not need a calmer at any other time but if by giving a maintance dose every day this keeps the Magnesium levels up, this will help.

Talk to the people at "Nupafeed" I have found that their magnesium calmer worked very well for my mare. She now travels all over the country competing without a problem.

Another thing ,have you checked out his back out. He maybe feeling uncomfortable.

I would start with just loading him and then starting the engine. Do this for a number of times, then move the trailer forward a bit at a time. Taking him for short rides in the trailer this will help.
