I have a dark palomino gelding, half arab, that I was thinking about showing in working hunter classes and ridden classes, do I have to pull his mane and plait him for these classes? I'm currently letting his mane grow and it looks beautiful but I don't want to be at a disadvantage for showing classes.... and then if I pull his mane will I be penalised in palomino classes?

I was of the understanding you turnout to type, so a PBA would be pulled and plaited?

If you plan to do Arab horse society shows if part breds are under 50% Arab they must be plaited over that and they are left natural regardless of colour, for local showing and working hunter you should plait or you will stand out like a sore thumb.

We have a 50% palo arab shown locally in PBA and coloured classes natural, would plait for workers though (she is a long way off a worker!) - her mane is still plaitable long as it is quite thin.

Wow she is beautiful. and very similar to my boy! good plaiting work! My chap's mane is quite thick so not sure how good he would look.... will have to practise!

I've never uploaded a pic before so I hope this works.....

This was taken over a year ago (all I could get my hands on on the work laptop!) His mane is longer now and he is much darker now, was only just broken in in the pic

If you really want to plait, do a running plait. We don't (& couldn't) plait Rusty, he is also a PB Arab. I'd happily show at a local level with him, and have done with some success.
