So pony was lame, 2 weeks box rest, for no reason other than the vet said it must be lami (even though no pulse and no heat and no grass in field...hmmmm)

Trotted pony up on Sunday, still looks lame to me (only slight)

Vet comes on Tuesday, gives pony a clean bill of health (WTF) tells novice owner (who wouldnt know a lame horse if it ran him over) to start lunging etc

I say vet is mad to owner, the horse is lame

Saturday he asks for my help lunging, I walk round to see lame pony on lunge.

Slightly loose plot and tell him to lunge effing lame pony on his effing own and why does he not buy an effing gerbil as they can survive on three legs.

Thankfully the farrier was on yard, who had a quick look and confirmed the pony was lame both on a circle and on the straight.

I am even more cross as owner then magically sees the sodding lameness.

Now. Would you advise owner to call the vet and tell him?

I sort of cant help being involved, usually dont give a damn but they are very close (if a bit annoying) friends.

But my question is, if a vet cannot see lameness, who the heck can?

ask for a different vet!

Had this problem with my horse last summer; vet was convinced horse had done high suspensory, I however thought he hadnt, the horse was very nearlly sound after having his fetlocked blocked & seen as he is very difficult to get to block out, I was convinced the problem was in the fetlock. I rang the vets back after sleeping on it & asked for a second opinion (there was no way he was going to new-market on a whim) the 2nd vet agreed with me completely - there never was anything wrong with the suspensory....

I feel for you!! You cant be so harsh on the owners!! I know loads of good riders and owners that cant see a lame horse if it jumped up and smacked them in the face.. Afterall they have taken the advise of a professional. If you have told them pony is lame and offered advise but advise is not taken then be smile and walk away..

HUH?

I hope I can spot lameness! Although we have disagreed over which leg lameness was in before, with an equal split of people thinking each front

At least we all agreed she was lame tho!
