Can you wash fly rugs?

As title, can I wash a fly rug at home, what do I need to know?

I do, I just put it in the washing machine.

I wash all mine at 40 degrees. It depends on the fabric, if you are not sure then wash on 30 degrees. I’m not sure if the ones that are impregnated with fly repellant can be washed.

Do up all the velcro first or you'll end up with bobbles everywhere ?

I wash mine all the time on a 40 wash they wash fine and dry really quickly.

yes, this is a very good point. I fasten everything too and I tend to put it in the washer turned inside out as much as I can, to try to protect the machine from buckles.

I've washed some of mine with no problem, just use non bio and 30 degrees. I've got one that's a bit big to fit in but my rug cleaning service does them for only 5 pounds so I send that one off to be washed.

Wash mine regularly, then re-spray with fly spray!

If you are worried that buckles will catch and rip the drum buy or make a wash bag with a zip fastening.The bag needs to be huge so the rug washes well. The ones for numnahs are not big enough.

Yep. Wash fine. Velcro and buckles done up. I use pet laundry bags.

Thanks all I thought I had heard somewhere that washing them was an absolute no no but couldn't think why that was the case, will stick it in an old duvet cover and bung it in the washing machine tomorrow ?

Stick to low temperature or they may shrink, wash twice if needed.

I used to wash my premier equine and Rambo heavy fly rugs at 60 twice to get the neem and sweet itch creams out when they got to yacky. Even then they never shrunk. It was the only way to get them reasonably clean again.

Yep, washed all of mine weekly on a hot wash for years. No issues.

Yes, maybe put in a large orange wash bag to protect the machine

I put mine in an older duvet cover too, they come out very well. non bio and 30 degrees.

My YO leaves hers in a bath of rancid rain water for a few days then lets them dry - I suspect they are dirtier after her "washing" efforts than before...

Mine are currently drying on the washing line
