Just wondering if anybody has any experience of this. My old boy has it and has a very short time left. I am hoping someone may be able to tell me what I might expect.
Thanks

Hi, sorry to hear this, I have never had a dog with oral cancers/tumours but we do treat them through work as well as cats, it's more common in some breeds tha others

You will now yourself when it's time, but some of the symptoms he may suffer will be drooling, bath breath, weight loss, difficulty eating...you can put him on more palatable food, to help with his eating for aslong as possible, your vet will give you all the advice you need re helping him when symptoms appear, otherwise spend the time he has left, trying not to worry about what is ahead, you will know when the times comes more tha anyone.

(((hugs))) to u both.

Thank you Cala. When found it was not possible to treat him due to age and lung problems. It is a month now and it has grown a little. he does have bad breath, but otherwise it does not seem to be bothering him, he is eating like a pig right now and seems perfectly happy.
As you said, we are watching him and I am sure we will know when the time comes, if not, my vet has always promised to let me know with any of my pets.
He is getting plenty of cuddles etc and although I know what's ahead, we are not dwelling on it, but making the most of the times we have left.
His half brother died from lung cancer.
Thankyou for your response.

Can't offer any advice on oral melanoma but just wanted to send loads of vibes to your lad. Sounds like he is happy now which is the main thing, I am sure you will know when his quality of life is not as you would wish, but for now try not to worry about the future and enjoy your time with him. (((hugs)))
