The hooligan got his bottom canines when he was 4. Last winter for his routine teeth rasp the vet said she thought we wouldn't see either wolf teeth or upper canines as he was approaching 7.

Well he was a bit flat & lethargic in August - but weather, no grass, hard ground etc. Then I noticed someone was quidding & it took me a while to work out it was him. I was a bit worried about a stick or something being caught but nope, turns out we've grown 2 upper canine teeth at the grand age of 7 years and 4 months. I thought that was pretty late!

We went out for a group ride this morning and I can confirm the lethargy is long gone and the Turbo Cob version is well and truly back.

Just hoping he stops there and doesn't decided to pop out wolf teeth too.

He shouldn't pop out wolf teeth at this point. Those come in around 6 months to 1 year old, give or take a bit. I've had horses finish growing in canines up to age 8. Which isn't totally crazy because I think the typical range is 4 to 6 years old or so.

I think having got the bottom ones 3 years ago I thought we were over teething - it wasn't even on my radar when he was a bit subdued. Sounds like he'll never get his wolf teeth then which I'm relieved about.

Pretty chunky canines top and bottom compared to photos I've been looking at. My old gelding didn't have them so not sure what normal is.

I think wolf teeth will almost certainly be there by now, if that helps? My EDT says the same as CC, that they come through early - mine had his wolf teeth when I bought him at 4/5 (still has them now as they've never caused a problem, but believe that's a bit unusual!).

Glad cob has his turbo his back though :)

Yeah, canines can come in various patterns. My most recent one seems to be getting to bottoms first but one side is ahead of the other.

I did have his wolf teeth extracted around age 2. They were huge (per the vet), and I just didn't want any question about them later.
