I have two friends who jog with their dogs and wanted to pick up a belt and line each for Xmas without spending a fortune.

There are lots of websites - but they don't need the professional stuff, so who does a good deal?

Also - if they are only jogging for fun - are their dogs ok to do so with a collar, or should I pick them up a harness each too?

I dont use a lead unless on a road, just tuck the lead in my pants and keep running. Will be watching this thread to see if there are cheaper harness belt kits out there becaue I can't find them.

Definitely need a harness, the idea is to have the dog up front and pulling, not fair to ask them to do it on a collar and you might put them off the idea if they get jerked about by the neck accidentally (I fall over occasionally :o). Harness fit is crucial, give me a shout if you need a bit more guidance there.

Country Hounds are usually the cheapest for gear, also try Inner Wolf. Snowpaw are quite pricy but they stock ManMat gear which I really rate, their shoulder harnesses are excellent.

If you prefer a thick padded waist belt, the walking belt type that husky people use, there's three or four places you can order a custom one but they're around £40.

OK, thanks for that.

I can a pick up a couple of harnesses from the seller I use for my old girl's harness (she backs out of collars:p)

Just need to pick up belts and lines now.

Cheapest place for the whole lot is Manmat and buy directly from them. They take paypal but they aren't too quick at posting things is the only thing! Look for the ski-joring equipment. I wouldn't buy from a UK stockist as they bump the price up lots. They do Horsey stuff as well....I love my headcollar!!

Anther potential money saving idea is to buy a climbing harness and cut the leg straps off. Plenty strong enough and cheaper than mushing gear. We use Taiga harnesses from the US and the Manmat short harness for the odd time we do a bike class (and on skis as well). Our belts are SASS but about £40.
