Usually give bute in fast fibre and it is eaten all up.
But now I have turned horse out 24/7 he cant be bothered to eat his fast fibre with or without bute.
Tried mixing the bute with a tablespoon of jam and stuck the mix in a slice of bread- offered it to horse- horse ate it all up and politely thanked me for bringing him a nice surprise - horse settled back to graze- end of it.No stress.
Has anyone given wormers this way?

Oh no- thought we had the problem solved. Horse did not spit it out so and looked like he enjoyed it. Well we will see tomorrow. What was yur plan b ?

I'm glad it worked for you but I had a similar experience to coloured_cob. A Shire was having large doses of bute and did take it a jam sandwiches for a while, then one day i offered it to her and she threw it on the stable floor. I picked it up, dusted it off and offered it again. This time she took it from me - and threw it into the water bucket! I got the message and gave it to her in a syringe from then on.

When I've had to give bute I have to do it with jam sandwiches as there's no way I'd get a syringe in his mouth. Happily eats them every time. Have a friend who gives her mare a jam sandwich daily with her medicine.

I have been through this with my ponies meds. Tried all sorts of different ways, till she got wise to it. She stopped accepting anything to eat in the end, full stop. I now give her everything in a syringe with natural yogurt. She seems to like it, just stands there while I squirt it in the back of her mouth. Job done. :-)

We moved to danilon he accepted this in his food. Tried everything. Tried with a syringe but he wouldn't accept this either so it was easier to switch. He is very Food orientated as well so really thought he go for it. Tried dissolving it in apple juice too but nope he just knew!!! He's always been a crafty ******.

Its not just the bute- fast fibre is not tasty enough to tempt him to eat it whemn he is enjoying turnout on grass . Could try a small amount of something more tempting but sort of feel why spend money on feed for a horse that is not hungry.

I mix meds with treacle and she wolfs it down. Will even lick it off a plate.

She's never tasted treacle without meds in it before, so she thinks of it as tasty treat! I'd make sure my horse never got a taste for anything before she had anything mixed in though.
