i went out to see ponios this morning and realised that our next door neighbours are going to be having a fireworks party. how do i know this - because there's bl**dy big bonfire set up about 10 foot over the other side of the hedge. they've got a 2 acre field and they've decided to put it there - i'm fuming to say the least. do you think non horsey people just don't realise? would you say something to them if it was you? i'm so p***d off.

Are you horse's going to be fussed by the fireworks and bonfire? If so then I would definitely ask if they could at least move the fireworks further away and be willing to extinguish the fire after they have had the party.

I do think non horsey people are generally just ignorant, they realise dogs and cats don't like fire and bangs but can't seem to make the connection to our other domesticated friends

My next door neighbour is doing exactly the same thing, and he knows about our horses and our other neighbours horses, and he just doesn't care. Some people are just wonderful, aren't they?

I would go and have a word with them, they may have just failed to realise that horses do not like fireworks either. Then look into moving your horses as far away from it all as possible.

If it's close to your stables, yes i would say something, other wise i would just make sure the horses are well out of the way. By the way Yes it would pee me off too.

TBH, unless theres a major fire risk to your stables etc I wouldn't be that annoyed. It is his land after all, and I'm sure sometimes they wish they didn't have noisy smelly horses in the next door field.

As this is going to happen 1 night out of 365 I don't think its worth worrying about, maybe try and politely ask that they don't fire fireworks in the direction of your horses and leave it at that. Our horses aren't particularly bothered by fireworks, they do like to watch them but aren't exactly terrified. I rather have the neighbours on my side for future neighbour relations than get stroppy over one night of the year.

my horses are ok with fireworks thankfully but i just worry about stray fireworks getting under their rugs or in their eyes, or in the stables. i think i'll have a word about where the fireworks are going to be set off but i'm not very confrontational so i'll see how it goes!

yes, i'll have to look into getting ponios a bit further away but a little bit of thought from the neighbours would have meant i didn't have this problem.

thanks wheelbarrow. the sooner they just have organised displays the better. at least it should be ensured that fireworks are let off in a safe area. we've got a display on our local beach, it's great, and at least it's not by any animals.

oh my god don't get me started on fireworks. the other day (in the middle of the day) a white car stopped beside our fields, lit a firework and threw it into our field!!!

horses didnt actually care- just looked at it but they could of got so badly hurt!!!!!!!!!!! sorry, rant over/
