Can't believe it's happened to me...Long, sorry.

Hi, just thought i'd let everyone know I visited her again today and she was much better! Hopeful that she will come home sunday! Whilst I was there today she even made a half hearted bid for freedom from the stable! - And for those that were interested I looked up her new boyfriend too - his names Cutlass Bay from Godolphin stables, and i'm not into racing, but i'm guessing by the number of first places next to his name and the fact he's been ridden by Frankie Dettori and the like he's pretty good! I told her she has good taste and she can have a foal by him if she likes!!

xx

Am really glad that its all turned out well.

Mind you she sounds like she has had other things going on ( falling in love with a successful boy)! But good she is ok one very lucky horse. (My sisters didnt even make surgery thats why I know you did really well to get her there FAST).

What is the plan once she gets home as she had a cut on belly from surgery? Is this healing ok? Animals are amazing...but genuinely pleased for you both.

She is lovely - and may I say in very good shape (on her before pictures too, and especially). The exact condition bodywise I wish all horses were. A picture of health in fact, which is so ironic.

I'm thrilled to hear her recovery is progressed nicely and fingers crossed she WILL be travelling home on Sunday and unloading like a darling when you arrive. :)

The cut is healing really well - will try and upload a pic in a minute! I'm very surprised about this as she's usually an appalling healer however the vets assure me it's doing really well, and they've stopped her antibiotics today!

Had a minor panic earlier on the way there about whether i'd be able to manage her at home with a great big wound on her belly but had a very long chat with a very good surgeon/vet whilst there and they've put my mind completely at rest. Think I was just having a silly moment due to all the stress!

I couldn't be more excited about her coming home and have already disinfected, lifted and relaid rubber mats and of course made her a massive shavings bed. They said today that she might be able to have short periods of restricted turnout after about 6 weeks so that's a lot better than I thought!

Thanks for the comment about her weight, I'd like to say I work hard to keep her like this, but she self regulates pretty well! She's not a greedy animal and leaves whatever she doesn't want, having said that she's not difficult to keep weight on either! Nice to know others think she looks good though!

Wow really goods news, you will be fine when she comes home, you are at a fab yard with some great people, her wound looks really good xx

Thanks, and I must admit I was really pleasantly surprised when I saw her wound today! (as much as you can be about a wound!)

My heart was in my mouth reading your post. So pleased to hear she's doing so well and you're getting her home.

I have no experience of colic but I nearly lost my mare 3 and a half weeks ago when she severed her digital artery and punctured her coffin joint. I know exactly how terrifying it is to have something happen so suddenly. I'm still getting over the shock. Thankfully my mare is taking to box rest well and making good progress.

Good luck with your mare xx

so pleased your girl is making a good recovery, colic is a horrible thing and can happen so quickley, having been through a 24 hour colic bout with one of mine this week it is horrible. Ive never had one with colic that needed a rectal and tubing i knew it was getting serious and the bugger needed to poo or we was in trouble.

mine was also lucky i acted as we had no obvious signs, no rolling no pawing, just horse to quiet and a tiny bit of sweat under the flank.

she is a lovely looking girlie and im sure she has loved all the attention and cant wait to get home.

I'm thrilled she's doing so well & have everything crossed for a speedy & uneventful recovery.

that wound looks really good. Having been through colic surgery i think the after care does make you feel anxious but they generally cope really well. i got a bit obsessive about counting poos and being worried about any sign but things subside over time.. good luck to you both..

Hi, Thanks for all your support!

Just to let you all know i've just brought my girl home! Couldn't be happier, she is very relaxed in her stable at the moment, fingers crossed it carries on that way!

xx

Absolutely wonderful news, over the moon for both of you. Sure with you nursing her she will make a rapid recovery. Today is a very good day!

Just read your thread for the first time today and it had me welling up:-/
My girl colicked last year and was in vet hospital for 4 days, thankfully didnt need surgery, just flooded with fluids, I can still remember that awful sick feeling as it played out. She made a full recovery :)
Im so glad your girl is on the mend and i'd have to say is looking really good post op, please keep posting to let us know shes ok, lovely to see your pics with her
