i want to clip my welshie fully so he's ready for the showing season - he usually keeps his coat untilmid july!!

so anyway, am riding this morning and suddenly realise he's just starting to malt/. literally only just, like three hairs but now what do i do??

he already has a blanket clip and looks very sexy but the clipped bits are starting to grow out so they at least need re-doing.

shall i clip now and hope we don't have a cold spell? or do i leave it and have LOTS of hair and a woolly, shaggy looking pony for the shows?

help, trivial i know but i'm really getting my knickers in a twist. if i don't clip by tomorrow, i wont get another chance for 2 weeks!

thanks. x x

I don't see why some hair should be down marked in a show? After all ponies grow hair to keep them warm. I wouldn't clip for looks, clip for the amount of work hes in so he doesn't loose condition. Full clipping him in the cold could mean he looses condition and you will get marked down more for that. Just my opion.

he's ridden seven days a week so in plenty enough work to be clipped fully. most show pony's are clipped out so they don't look 'scruffy'. it's just to 'neaten up the edges' sort of thing.
he gets hot when worked but only sweats when given a pipe opener.
and he's very good at keeping weight on even when on a strict diet (most of the time) so i don't think losing condition is much of a worry.
thanks.
