I have been advertising for ages on local equestrian FB pages and in local equestrian stores, but nothing. I have a 14'2 pony, safe, forward but never strong, occasional spook so I said no novices and I said no under 18s (from my own worry perspective!) access to manège and off road hacking. Complete flexibility on days and no monetary payment just a poopick on ridden days. No responses at all. I wonder if it's the weight/height issue as she's not chunky so only suited to small adults really

I feel your pain all the way from Cardiff. I'm desperately trying to avoid using local Facebook groups as they're full of numpties and wannabes but I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and sift them out when I meet them.

My issue is he no longer jumps but he's strong so not a novice ride. Most accomplished riders want to jump so finding someone good enough who wants him is really hard.

Have just bitten the bullet and posted on FB. Made the advert sound extra professional hopefully in an attempt to weed out the dud ones!

I feel your pain from the opposite side. Can't find a horse to share in Northampton at all unless I am prepared to pay silly money for horses ready for retirement. I did manage to find one that seemed suitable but I was rejected as being male I would obviously ruin the horse with harsh riding. This without even meeting me.

A friend of mine in Surrey has been unable to find someone to share her lovely 15.2 Connie. No stable duties as he lives out, use of an arena and direct access to the common. Price totally negotiable, she just wants someone to ride him as much or as little as they want as she works silly hours. She's been advertising for months with no replies so has given up, it's a shame 😔

Be open minded. I wanted an adult for my 14.2 I ended up with a 12yr old!

However it was all agreed with her horsey mum who was a friend of a friend. She was supervised at all times by her mum. She has been extreme respectful happy to do things my way and has great empathy with my horse I trust them completely to take him competing alone.

Now she is 15 and we still share, her mum had almost become my surrogate pony club mum she gives me lifts in the trailer that they bought for my pony and we have actually bought a 5yr old 16.2 between us, something I could never afford on my own.

If someone had said i would have shared with a 12yr old I'd have said no way! But I couldn't have asked for better x

Blimey, wonder what's going on. I have found sharers pretty easily before but not looked for a few years. I do find it a bit much when people want to pay peanuts, or nothing, to share good horses as they are flipping expensive to keep. Maybe everyone's buying rather than sharing nowadays given the cheap cost of some horses.

Tank - not sure where in Herts but I did have success ad. at the RVC for their equine students (they have a website), they tend to come and go after a year or so but had 2 good sharers from there.

Eek, only posted on FB a couple of hours ago and got someone coming to see him on Monday. An acquaintance, who has seen A plenty so knows what he's like, saw my post and tagged a friend of hers so hopefully she'll know she will cope with him or wouldn't have tagged her. Am now Facebook stalking her to see if we're likely to get on! A bit worried as no horsey photos but she doesn't seem to use it that much anyway so hopefully that doesn't mean anything.

I'm struggling to find a sharer for my daughters pony, I thought he'd be easy to find a sharer for as he's a parents dream my 4 year old can do anything with him and we're at a yard with brilliant facilities but haven't had any interest :(

Seems like it's very easy to find sharers over here. I've been advertising on behalf of someone else who has multiple. Just a few mins from the RVC but no RVC students so far (I work at the RVC but all the ads I've put up have been on the internet!)

It is, however, a lot harder to find sharers for a small horse/pony. I would advise that you make the ad a bit more open and be a bit less specific about the horse's height. I know that seems misleading but far too many people are obsessed with the idea that they need a 17hh horse when they'd be perfectly happy on a 13'2 pony. Even the teens that show interest are usually after something huge - it's utterly ridiculous. A lot of people hear "pony" and think it'll be embarrassing to be seen out hacking on it... But they just don't have a clear picture in their minds of what the height means and are responding to social pressure. They soon change their minds and realise how silly they were being.

Pictures are also important in my experience. And it's good to be very clear about what "the deal" is and make it as flexible as possible. I'd not put an age or experience restriction on it and instead be clear about the horse's behaviour. A lot of people class themselves as novices and vice versa who have it totally wrong. It's better to give people a clear picture and let them decide if they think the horse is suitable "forward and may give a little spook" is not the same as the bucking, rearing, napping crazy thing some people think of when you say "no novices"! I'd open it up to teens as well but perhaps tell them they can't hack. Since you have a school at your disposal, there isn't quite so much that can go wrong... (I don't trust teens to hack out alone either.) Sometimes you get lucky and there's a super enthusiastic mum who'll come along with the child.

And advertise properly... So far Facebook has been a disaster - did find one wonderful person but everyone else has either been flaky or in one case downright sinister (turned out they were known tack thieves!) But I've paid a little bit to get ads on all the major horse sales sites (Google "horses for sale UK", click the top 5!) and that really worked out.

OP- I'd bite your hand off if I was closer. Sounds just what I need. I've been looking for a share for months.

Annagain, I saw your FB advert. Your boy looks lovely. We are moving to Barry in 3 weeks and I will be looking for a share. Unfortunately I've been out of the saddle for 4 years so doubt I would be able to do your boy justice. Hope you find someone suitable :-)
