Can't get saddle to fit cob !!!!!!

Hi help please I have an Irish cob 14.1 and wanted a new adjustable saddle fitted sent off mesure to ideal maker and was told today no chance of adjustable until she has worked a bit more losing some more weight :0(((.... Also she needs u shape tree any ideas please please x
 
what about the wintec wide? they go really blimmin wide, I was looking at them this weekend! I sat on it with a 4x wide gullet and it was wider than riding a barrel!!
 
I know that the shape of the tree in the wide saddle is different to the shape in their standard saddle, it is designed to fit the rounder type horse, so might be worth looking at!

I'm getting a saddle fitter out this weekend hopefully to try them on my boy! he's got wide shoulders but isn't a big barrel so not sure if he'll need the wide model or the standard model!
 
Oh thankyou I will find out I have a wintec at mo but my saddle fitter told me it is v shaped and will bruise her and now I'm worried I'm hurting her she suggested I ride her bare back :0(((... I didn't thing my girl was to big would live to send pic so you could see
 
I had a wintec, got it properly fitted - Never again! My mares hair fell out and grew back white where it bruised her. Luckily that fell out and her new coat was chestnut so did no permanent damage. I then bought a jeffries leather saddle and its been fab. Me personally would never put a wintec on a cob but that's personal preference :-)
 
Thorowgood GP, all the way, very easily adjusted for change in shape through age or exercise. Get a saddle fitter out to do a proper job.
 
My boy didnt get on with the thorowgood cob plus / cob saddles much to my disappointment. We now have native pony and cob saddles ( from SBloom).
 
My wide share horse has got a Saddle Company saddle, they are adjustable by a saddler with the right tools. It's super comfy, we actually have a dressage saddle so there is room for his huge shoulders too!
 
My boy has an Ideal Highland saddle - has been really great for both me and him; checked each year and never had to change it. Not sure about the tree shape tho.

was it flocked or cair? if cair was it fitted by a cair fitter?


I have a wintec on all of mine, a welsh, a appy, a tb and the two new ones will be getting their wintec wide's fitted on Friday.

my old fitter mucked up the fit of the wintec and had them in the wrong gullets and had to use sticky nummuhs the cair fitter is amazing. I can ride all of mine without a nummuhs and the saddles don't move, don't pinch and the horses all go fab in them.
 
If you wanted to think about treeless you could have a look at the heather moffett flexee which is a sort of in in between, I have an adjustable Kent and masters cob but I think any normal treed saddle restricts her shoulders a little bit so thinking of trying that next.
 
Saddle company saddle - absolutely brilliant and adjustable. My mare has dropped loads of weight (woooooooooooop!) since it was first fitted just after I got her and have just brought it in to keep pace with the changes. Went wider as well after she got porky on box rest :(:)
 
Hi.I had a Ideal FWB(flat wide back) VSD made for my very flat backed cob,Its so wide Ideal even questioned the saddler to make sure it was measured correctly.And i can honestly say it is the best £1100 i have ever spent,it fits my girl like a glove and it is soooo comfy.
 
Ohhh that's sounds like what I need is it adjustable ????.. As my saddle fitter said I need special tree made and would not be adjustable and I think that was an ideal and would cost me £1300 ?? X
 
Natives and cobs vary a lot in shape, what works well for one won't work for another which can be one of the issues with a company with one "cob tree". Also, synthetic trees, as in all adjustable saddles. tend not to be quite as stable as traditional wooden trees. Some will need a wide-pommel "hoop" tree, others need a totally different shape. Some need a very flat seat, others need more scoop in it. I'd recommend getting out a fitter who understands wide horses.

I have a Saddle Company Cob saddle for my no withered, flat back boy. The tree is fully adjustable all the way along so if he changes shape I just get my saddle company fitter out to have it changed as needed.
Mine was made to template and to my specification - i.e. I had leather flaps and extra padding in the seat - and came out at £700.
 
y mum has a huge clydesdale x who is over weight, he is very very wide. The saddle fitter came out and fitted a throwgood cob saddle.
 
No saddle expert but I think Wintecs are good(although not sure how robust they are)? I looked at synthetic and remember the trek one being very comfy. However my 14.1 cob I ended up with a Morris and Nolan(he was 14.1 wide with shoulders like a brick etc).

Extra wide saddles etc are a pain to find. I was lucky good old Sandon Saddlery had something in their Aladdins cave. The Morris and Nolan GP was good and he did change shape quite easily. Good doer etc. Never had a problem

My New Wintec Wide is a lovely fit for my haflingers. :) I think they are quite robust saddles.
