Can't help but get excited, but what to look for in a yearling?

Asha-not to sure on the sensible plan part but it's a plan non the less. I've asked questions about him, read the advert on him, looked at it's parents and read about them too and so far all seems good. I've seen pics of his older brother and the mare was one they also bred themselves. I'm just dying to go and view him but Im not off until next weekend! Im trying not to get my heart set on him as they have a few others but it was him who caught my eye last year when he was for sale at weaning.
So basically once ive got over the aww factor I need to be looking at temperament, how much he's done or been handled, vet etc, how his shoulders and neck are set, and a leg in each corner? Check out the stallion, mare and siblings and discuss gelding him. I can pm the website if anyone would like to give me a second opinion

Sorry for the delay, my daughters pony came down with colic! What a way to end a great day ( they did well at SJ today)

Anyway. had a look he is a beauty ! Im no expert but he looks to me to be well put together, good straight legs nice shoulder and pretty face. His sire is stunning. Couldnt see the dam too well. Hes definitely one you should take to the BEF. that way youll get a professionals opinion. With those good looks and a great temperament he should be a keeper

Good luck and dont forget to post pics when you get him

I looked for a kind eye, nice feet, good feather and bone and confidence. I chose him because he was the only one who came to say hello. The stallion and the mare were both in with him and they were both very placid.

One thing i found with my youngster was;

When i bought him i had him with my 4 year old who was calm and very loving and this was making my 8month old a lovely fella, he was acting like a old man in a young body (They did play about and stuff) but i thought it would be nice to have another youngster for him to play with and be a baby with.

I found he took a step backwards when he was with the youngster as they went wild together obviously being babies but it was a pain in the bum when you wanted to catch him and they would wind each other up.

If i could do it again i would do it the other way around and have him with babies first and maybe at about 18 months put him with older company (if its possible) so that he could learn some manners :)

Good luck anyways - Its very exciting :D

Gosh asha hope the ponys ok. Thanks for the opinion, I'm glad you think he's nice and I have to agree the stallion is stunning isn't he. If I do get him I'll be on here with pics galore!!!
Thanks for the input from lottie940 and cath&vinnie too. It's nice to know what else everyone looks for and their experiences and advice. It's so long since I got a youngster and I'm a little over come with the excitement at the prospect that its been good for you lot to ground me and make me aware of what I should be looking for
