but today is one of them!!! I have been doing really well, pain is being controlled quite well now, and as long as I dont do anything too rediculous, I am basically ok. In the summer. When its warm..and dry!! but, cold wet, dank weather that we have now, and I am in agony! My muscles in my back are solid, I have no movement there, when I lay down I feel like I am laying on a brick!! Got home last night and took an extra 10mg of morphgesic which then sends me loopy!! Then it was a hot bath and lay down flat! I was in bed just after 7!!
This morning I am still waddling like a duck, its not real acute pain, I am just soooo stiff and unmovable. And fed up!

ETA...sorry for my woo is me post, just had to get it out! have a lovely day!

I know exactly how you feel. I have had back problems for years. When I get up in the morning it's a case of not is my back going to hurt today it's a case of how much will it hurt & how stiff will I be. This coupled with knees that have had 3 operations on one & one on the other I hobble my first few steps.

In the winter I put a back brace on when I go to the stables, if nothing else it helps keep my back warm & that helps. I also put a brace on my one knee. I just think before I do something so that I minimise the injury I could aggravate. That & taking my time to do things, doing 2 journeys with a barrow instead of one really heavy one etc. Sometimes I forget & do something silly & I know that later on or the following morning I will really know about it.

Sometimes I wonder why I put myself through all this, but I love my horses & they have to be looked after. :)

Another one who feels your pain! As soon as the weather turned my back seized up again :rolleyes3: As Toby said I wear a magnetic back brace which seems to help, and when I can I'm going to start regular sports massages again which usually help if it's muscular :)

I have got a back support that cost me a fortune, but I have never really got it just right so its comfortable. maybe I shall get that out from the bottom of the wardrobe and have another go! I know when i had my surgery they said I will always have pain, but I didnt think then it would be this bad!!

I have a lot of trouble with my lower spine due to disc desiccation and bulging. I found heat patches helped, and also we got a memory foam mattress, i sink into it and it supports me, and whilst it doesn`t take the pain away completely it has made a difference ... **hugs** for you as back pain is the pits x

If you don't like your expensive back support maybe just try a cheapy one? My back pain is not remotely in the same league as your problems but I have a wetusit material job with velcro and it keeps my lower back lovely and warm. Yesterday I didn't wear it to work as I haven't been too bad lately and I couldn't take my boots off when I got home, so it must help.

And onther...... I suffer the same fate in the winter following my discectomy 2yrs ago. This has progressively got worse since the op but is still 100% better than the pain I was in before hand. My surgeon told me that the best exercise I could do was riding (as long as i didnt fall off) as this is the only activity that would move my lower back and mobalise it all.

I cannot lie flat on my back and never have been able to. I find when Im at work (office based) a hot water bottle really helps ease everything and then gentle riding and pottering around with the little chorse and the dog walks really help. Just try not to do too much of the more heavy tasks until loosened up or get help.

(can alaways tell if i have overdone it the following day tho)

i guess I am just fed up with it today. and i am dreading the winter months, although we have at last got some heating behind the desk where I work.
i know there are an awful lot of people worse off than me, and it doesnt happen that often now when i start feeling sorry for myself, but its just getting to me a bit at the moment. Anyone got a size 9 boot to give me a kick up the arse???

I've just worked out that I rode twice in October as the change in the weather has really knocked me for six. I have damaged nerves around my ribs and the cold damp weather really makes the pain worse. I also managed to get pneumonia which is now just a chest infection but I still feel crappy.

It's so miserable when you feel so much worse at the beginning of winter with the thoughts of it lasting for the next few months. I've been looking at heated gilets etc as an option for winter but as I take Fentanyl (patches) and Oramorph the heat makes the patches release quicker and then I end up feeling even more like a zombie than normal. I'd taken so much pain relief yesterday I would have scared off any trick or treaters without even dressing up.

I've had new stables and an arena built over the summer and atm it's like torture to look out the window and not be able to use them. The horses are out getting fat and hairy and I feel so useless just looking at it all wondering if it was all a huge waste of money if I'm too ill to enjoy any of it. Sometimes it's hard to stay positive and upbeat when you're in pain and everyone else is having so much fun with their horses.
