well i can't wait for hunting, just to help people remind themselves about what hunting means to them. this is why im lloking forward and also what it means to me.. soo.

it means waking up at 7 o clock to a crisp frosty morning, greeting my horse in his stable. hearing the hounds shouting and crying doing what they do best and following a scent all day. meeting all of the hunting people and gossiping. galloping across fields full of mist and most of all smelling the freshness in the air as you watch the hounds galloping across an open field in full cry

Same as you.
I love watching the hounds work and I love seeing the steam raising from the horses on a cold morning.
Wish I could do a 7 o clock start though. I have to do the yard before I go hunting.

I'm going out for my 4th mornings cubbing tom. Our meets have now moved to 8 so don't have to be up till 6.30 instead of 5.

But i can't wait for proper hunting to start as at our hunt point to point there was an auction and i was the winning bid on a day with the whipper in.

Can't wait.

I'm off to the first autumn hunt meet on 8th October. I can't wait.Need to sort out some brakes for my horse though as discovered that he has taken to broncing in exciting situations and then taking off refusing to stop lol.May be a little embarrassing if I can't keep behind the master, especially as we have a new one this season.

those bright clear mornings in weak wintry sunshine,
standing in forestry, in a fog of hot sweaty horse,
the sound of the hounds on a line,
the sight of hounds an huntsman on the moor tops,
the sound of horses clattering down a metalled road,
the banter at a hunt meet,
the jibes when someone falls off in the least dignified way possible,
the camaraderie when you're the one falling off,
the kindness of strangers when you lose your horse,
the hip flasks,
the friendships,
the thunder of horses across grassland,
the jumping,
the utterly exhausted, too much fresh air feeling at the end of the day,
the countdown to your next day out.

I have never been hunting but would love to try (would need a lot of dutch courage first) but I know you can follow in the car or on foot can't you? Does any know of any near Newcastle upon Tyne? Really fancy following it this year
