Can some one please describe to me to the correct aids for canter?
I know I really should know them, word for word, but I have a bit of a baby-addled brain at the moment and my horse has taken to not listening to me at all sometimes, so it must be something I'm doing wrong.

P.S. I know lessons would be a good idea, but lack of funds, time (well, normal time - I ride at 5.15am, mostly!) and lack of a school (I school round thistles in the field!) mean that they aren't really possible at the moment.

Sitting trot/or walk...- sit up nice and straight.
Give a little feel on the inside rein
Tilt inside seat bone slightly forwards and outside leg slightly back and squeeze with both legs...

In theory.

Maybe I should just take note of your signature quote... Try try and try again then open a bottle of wine! Sounds best to me!

Seriously tho, thanks for the reply. Am obviosuly not working hard enough. In fact I did note how my legs weren't aching after riding the other morning! No pain, no gain!

Inside leg on the girth, outside leg behind the girth and canter! I always remember my riding instructor saying this for ever person as they took canter, it's ingrained in my brain (though I've not had baby-addled brain yet, I hear it does strange things to the memory!)

Umm well ask for canter on a corner of the school then sit to the trot, inside leg on the girth & outside leg slightly behind. thats like telling the horse which leg to lead on, but if you are asking for canter on a corner then your horse should manage to get on the right leg anyways. obviously nudge your horse into canter too, if they dont respond keep trying.
thats what my instructor has always taught me.
