Been reading some of the advice on here to improve canter and been starting off with light seat then working on lots of transitions.

Going okish, but he gets tired really quickly and goes on his forehand, he is building up fitness and uses himself well and happy to do a good hour in trot but canter tires him out.

Dont want to rush him but did think i'd have him ready to do some unaff novice SJ by start of outdoor, but the canter just is'nt ready. He's not a baby but is green. as soon as we introduce poles on ground its like he cant concentrate on the pole and canter at the same time

Not expecting a quick fix but am i working on the right things? any other ideas? Exercises?

Thanks

Does he canter much out hacking, Ryu was very unbalanced in canter he felt heavy and struggled in the arena, so I tried to get him cantering out as much as possible, luckily we had a long straight grassy canter track and some good company, this really got him motivated as did a bit of hunting he learnt quickly what to do with his legs, worth a try

Actually just what i was thinking, because of the daylight over winter i've not hacked out much at all, thought this would help with fitness and muscle build up too
