Canter Poles

Hi

What is the standard measurement for laying out canter poles for a horse.

e.g. trotting poles are approx 1.4m (4ft 6in) apart.

it realy depends on how big your horses stride is. i would do 3/4 big steps xx

Iv always been told its 4 human strides to a horses one canter stride and a bit shorter for ponies

we do lope over poles in western and the standard size is 6ft. so would say try a little bigger as the canter stride would be longer. Really helpful if you have someone on the ground to increase/decrease spaces so you get to the spacing that is right for your horse. hope that helps...

The distance is 9' (double the distance of trotting poles) and you can canter over them, or it will be 2 trot strides over them. It will vary depending on your horses stride, but 9' is by the book.
