My mare is lazy with her outside hind in canter. It is the same on both reins. She steps under nicely with her inside but doesn't bring the outside through. She is totally sound, works well in walk and trot, tracking up nicely. Her teeth, back and tack are all checked regularly so I don't think it is a problem as such just that she finds the pace hard work. Does anyone have any exercises advice as to aids/position which may help?

You do not say how fit your mare is. Is her muscle development symmetrical? Does she do this with different riders?

You could try doing canter pole work. Try putting poles in a circle, 4 poles at each quarter of the circle and schooling over them in all paces. Trotting poles alternately raised at the end. In other words, exercises to help your mare's awareness of where her legs are, build up fitness and stimulate her mind. Also try riding in a jumping position to see if this helps.

Not sure if this will help, but its worth a try.
