Set off in the light but came back in the dark, could just see the ground enough to canter the last stretch home along the river, a big owl came out of the tree at the side of us, he spooked but we coped :D

Pic on drive tonight, he gets a treat mid ride at home, my top flashes red neons as well :)

Cantering in the dark is great, I did it a couple of times on my first horse D and found it a really bonding experience.

Have yet to try it on the giant one...

You are blooming nuts. For two weeks now I have been doing the evening run with head torch and my mare still hates the torch light!!!
She still wont come to her feed bowl

Enjoy wish I had a horse as confident as yours.

How brilliant !! Your horse is one in a million and you must have an amazing bond with each other.
If I cantered mine in the dark, it would be getting light by the time she stopped!!

Very impressed with your 'flashing' :):)

He did really well going over the bridge home as a rattly trailer went past, he hates rattly trailers in the light never mind the dark, yea he is a one in a million ginger sausage :D

He is waiting intently for wifey to come out and give him his treat :)

Not really brave, he is just a good sausage, ridden out in the dark for last 6 years so it is just the norm for us :), he was exceptionly good last night as
when we got to the end of the road, a large plastic bucket came hurtling across the road from nowhere, he just looked at it, two idiots had kicked it hard, they didn't see me coming, as they were around the corner and had kicked it without knowing what was coming, me or a car  some other horses would have spooked bad at that.

We take ours home for treats - choc digestives and jammy dodgers being favourites  :D

I wouldn't dare hack in the dark, I'd be run over. Its bad enough running in the dark round near me! :)

When I was a teenager I used to ride my pony every night in Bushy Park (Hampton Court) in the dark. He hated water so if it had been raining and there were puddles we would be cantering along and he would jump over the water. I, of course, have much less sight in the dark than him so would just hang on grimly :D. Twas fun but I wouldn't have the balls to do it these days... far more aware of the dangers!

I LOVE the headlight.... is it something you bought specially or adapted??? Does he have a red light on his bum??? :D:D:D:D

oh liking the headlight! i ride every night in the dark - but around an estate with no public access - so the only folk i meet is the gillies or keepers and they know to look out for me lol! i still look like an xmas tree in high viz though ;) but does the light ruin your night vision? i find i'm best with no lights...

I'm liking the headlight, where did you get it, what make is it please ?

I know the people on my yard will be rolling thier eyes

All you need now is a hothatz !

I love the pic, used to do it all the time with my mare until the OH had a fit and said it was dangerous because I fell off, didn't seem to matter that when I fell off it was actually broad daylight!!! She was always much better behaved in the dark as she couldn't see anything to shy at untill it had gone past, it does take a lot of trust from both parties though.

Loving the headlight:D

I always used to ride in the dark when I was a teenager *coughs* a few years ago.....it was second nature. Don't do it now though.....not sure why really, gone chicken I think:(

My dad made me some lights for my strirrups back then in the days before hi-viz and what not.....
