Cantering a trotter

My ex-trotter has been going brilliantly in left-lead canter this past while, and has begun to balance and find a rhythm without rushing, however for some reason he cannot even pick up right-lead canter - he just freaks out and rushes forward, in trot, and it takes a while to settle him after an attempt. Any thoughts on how to relax him and encourage him into it?

Had he had a physio check he's not tight/ uneven? Has he always done it or is this new?

yeah that's a good call on the physio. the trotters we get in always favour once should when trotting, so it can make them very unbalanced and the find it easy after some physio work on the locked shoulder.

can he canter on the lunge on that rein easily?
