Hi, Ive just got my new horse, she has been living with an older lady who kept her in very light work only riding her in the paddock every now and then, she has been ridden and kept in this one paddock for a whole year and it’s pretty much vertical with a bit of straightness down the bottom. When I came to ride her I mostly rode her on the straight and she seemed fine. I had a basic vet check and she came back sound, I was only getting her as a project to train up. I got her saddle fitted and have lunged her a few times but noticed on her canter her hind legs don’t seem to match her front legs, it’s strange, they seem slower...she always picked up the correct canter lead on her left lead and then on her right she got a few disunited canters and then she got the rigtt hey leads. when I started rider her she always got the ride canter lead on the left, but on the right she almost always gets the wrong canter lead and when she does get it right she sometimes does a flying lead change and changes it to the incorrect lead. She also does this weird hop like jump into the canter, sometimes it looks like she’s pigrooting but then does a smooth canter. She’s a 15hh 7year old chunky QH and I’ve done some research but she doesn’t have a hunters bump or signs of a sacroiliac injury/stifle... It definitely could be me as the rider, or maybe because she was on a hill for a year she’s become lope sided I’m not sure.... does anyone have any ideas... also want to mention she always tries to go for a canter, when I’m walking or even just standing if I give her the smallest amount of leg she goes for a canter... Any ideas?
