My poor baby pony had a very scary encounter yesterday.

I was moving him to a different field, but to get to it we have to g down a usualy very quiet lane.

He was a bit jumpy anyway - excited to see the horses in the bottom field.

I was in the lead with him in hand and i was in reflectives and my mum and her old boy were bringing up the rear.

I could hear a car coming towards us there was a pull in ahead of us for the oncoming car to pull into.

I signalled for him to slow down, the driver continued past the availible pull and came straight as us i started to to signal fast for him to slow down while trying to calm my baby boy down as he was already getting skittish as the car continued to bare down on us.

Baby freaked! legs splayed! pulling me backwards as i start shouting for the driver to stop!

He didnt stop until baby was in front of his car on his knees!!

Baby was shaking when i lead him around the car which was about half a foot wide as he went past the car his rug brushed the side of the car so then he ran me over!!

But anyway i managed to get him past the car which was revving the whole time!! and into his field without serious injury!!

The car driver sped off once i was passed him nearl running my mum and her old lad over as he went!!

I have no idea why he didnt stop when i asked i was signalling correctly and was highly reflective!! It took a hhorse nearly sitting on his bonnet for him to stop and even then you could tell he would rather run over my horse to get to his destination.

And i didnt even get his number plate - i was being trampled by a scared youngster and mum was still trying to work out what was going on by the time he had driven off - otherwise i would be on the phone to the police rather than moaning about it on here......sorry for the essay.....im just really upset by it because the baby is going to be just that more funny about traffic in the future when i start his ridden career!! :(

Some people!! Any one else encountered similar drivers?? it would be nice to know its not just me!!

Well done if youmade it this far.... cadburys mini egg any one??

Not me personally but a fellow livery had a run in with a car recently, driver jumped out and attacked him and his horse with his parcel shelf!! Anyway, livery got a photo of his car reg plate, reported him to Police and they paid him a visit...

So sorry for your youngster and hope it hasn't scarred him for life. Can you remember anything about the car, number plate, description? May be worth ringing your local Police and informing them, the driver may do the same to another horse rider who may get his number..

What a total ********!!! :mad::mad:

I hope your poor baby pony is ok - very frightening for you both. God I'd have given his such a mouthful .... which I know is rather difficult to do when you're trying to control a panicked horse! Some people are just plain rude and stupid. Thankfully seem to be in the minority in my neck of the woods but you always get the odd one sadly :(

Sorry to hear that! I was taking my yearling out on a very quiet road once, just for a nice walk which i had done pretty much every day and she was becoming so good with any cars wouldnt batter an eyelid. Then one day some idiot sped round the corner, like you i signalled for him to slow but instead of listening to me, he flashed his lights, beeped his horn and sped up. I literally had to jump out of the way dragging the horse with me. What annoyed me most was that once he passed he drove off at a normal speed. I dont understand these people?

It took some time but my baby got over itand shes now perfect in traffic, im sure yours will too!

Jesus a parcel shelf well in that case i think we had a lucky escape...me too i will have to just try and get him over it :( not really i think it was a silver ford or kia not too sure i dont think they were locals seen as i didnt recognise there car...

Omg that's terrible! I had the same thing the other day! Walking out in hand down a single lane, most people crawl along that road as there are all ways horses going up and down, any way my horse was having a bit of a OMG WE ARE GOING OUT!! moment! And this girl just didn't stop I was shouting at her to stop as there simply not enough room between the hedge and her car! Stupid people!! Make me so angry!

I hope you baby doesn't think all traffic is like that Xx take care sounds like you were doing everything you could x

Thats disgusting! what is wrong with some people?!

There are some very inconsiderate people on the roads. Honestly how often can these people actually come across a horse to be that annoyed? If it was every day on their way to and from work I could understand but I honestly see a horse on the road about every 2-3 months if that (apart from me and others riding out together obv).

I think when someone is leading a horse they should be treated with extra care personally.

Omg izzwizz that is extra mental!

I hope he will hes only 3 :( im glad to hear im not the only one who encounters psychos!! :D

But you know whats funny if i have my OH with me car drivers will even turnoff there engine :O :)

So sorry to hear about this, I hope it hasn't mentally scarred your pony too much!

I would make sure whenever you are walking down that road to/from your field etc, or within sight of the road, that you try to keep your phone in your hand on camera mode, and be ready to take a photo of the car if you see it again, is it likely to be a local resident do you think?

I'd also report it to your local community bobby etc just so they are aware even if they can't do anything, who knows if you manage to get a photo of the car, they might go round and have a word with the driver, that driving behaviour really is unacceptable for you and your mum as pedestrians, never mind your ponies too!

Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of them! And it will probably take some work but im sure soon your baby will realise that not all cars are driven my these mental cases :D

Brain dead springs to mind! Thankfully the horse involved is a calm type and was none the worse for his experience. The driver from the sounds of things, behaved like he was on something, was out of control. Other drivers had stopped and one of them held the horse whilst the rider faced the driver, rider being 6ft tall and he is well built shall we say. Car driver sped off when he saw him after nearly running him over.....

Hopefully :D i dont think il move him with mum bringing up the rear again - shes not the best in a crisis she just shouts ' HOLLY! HOLLY!' over and over ;) I'd like to gallop my horse at him while he walks down the road ;D

That sounds absolutely horrible hope your youngster is okay, you were doing all the right things he was clearly just a complete *******!

I have no time for inconsiderate drivers. They can control their cars, if our horses decide to bomb off we can't always control them!

Have had a few scary experiences, one being a bus driver overtaking me and another horse VERY close (so close my stirrup scraped along the side of the bus) with traffic coming in the opposite direction just so it could then pull up to the bus stop only one minute ahead of us! Needless to say I got off, asked my friend to hold my horse and openly took a picture of the bus reg plate, number and driver. The police paid them a nice little visit later.

Another was a quiet country lane with my old horse, a very spooky youngster I was helping to back. Completely wrapped up in high vis with "YOUNG HORSE PLEASE DRIVE SLOW" on practically every bit of kit. Had gone out with a much older horse as companion. What else happens but a little sports car comes speeding round the corner and refuses to slow down despite signalling until my horse gets himself in such a tizz he rears up in the middle of the road. Driver has the cheek to get out and yell at me demanding what I'M doing. Thankfully the other rider I was with had the common sense to tell him she had his license plate and witnesses (couple walking a dog) to which he visibly got two shades paler and quickly got back in the car.

That being said I've also had some incredibly nice drivers. Along another country road my horse started acting up due to a tractor in the next door field and a van coming up behind me stopped and put on his hazard lights, got out and helped calm my horse down to the extent I could get past the tractor. Said he'd ridden horses as a child and missed them, though not their silly ways! :p

You'd think that nearly having a horse on your bonnet woiuld make some people think, but 9 times out of 10 it doesn't. Hope you're all ok after that.

We had a run in last summer with a car. Niece was out on her pony, I was on foot behind, my sister was on foot infront. We all had hi-viz on. A car came round the corner.. well I say round the corner, it didn't actually make the corner as the driver was texting. Good job the pony had lightening reactions and leapt into the hedge. Car ended up on the verge the pony had been on milliseconds before. The driver just mouthed sorry and sped off, spinning the wheels leaving a nice set of tyre tracks on the verge and then on the road. Idiot.

Since then pony has been fine with traffic. Thought it might have scared her a bit as she's quite young and not the most confident pony. Think it shook my sister and I up more.

Glad they were all ok!! Lucky you had a clever pony my youngster is just bonkers if a an acorn falls he often runs round saying the sky is falling!!

My 9 year old boy is like that he often has to leap into hedges and up verges on a seconds notice on supposedly quiet country lane ;)

I hope he is okay :( Give him a polo from me!

I hated drivers like that!

I will never forget:
Went up to see loan pony but unfortunalty (R.I.P) a pony had been hit by a car on the main road so walked up to see my loan pony at the time and, tacked up to go to the woods.
A Car hurtles round the corner! I have a scream at him and then he tells me to be more considerate because his daughter is in the car and her pony had just been hit on the main road!:eek: i couldn't belive it!
My reply: Well try not to hit mine. (proberbly the wrong answer by far!)

xx

Im glad he liked his carror and hope he is okay!

I think some people are oblivious, i understand he was upset but there was no need to come hurtling round the corner then give me an ear full... its not like he could go anywhere the traffic was back logged for miles!

I am sorry to hear of this incident.

Unfortunately there are some preetty nasty people driving cars (who should not be) and for the safety of all road users we need to get them off the roads.

Could I ask you to report this incident on the www.horseaccidents.co.uk giving a detailed description of the incident and as much as you remember of a description of the car and driver and details of the location of were it occured including post code.

Also report it to your local police station and ask for an incident number.
