Car for towing for an under 25?

Hi, off topic and hijacking a bit. How do you find that to tow? I'm considering getting one, but I'm really torn between single horse trailers (which look a bit small and flimsy), or a traditional 2 horse one we're all used to seeing. I'm towing with a 2 L VW golf so like you I'd ideally prefer something that is within its towing capacity without downplating.

Single trailers are very stable and allow for a little more view along each side

Easy to down plate without any major hassle

Not many trailers about for B licence towing without the need to down plate

Hey hey! Looks like my nagging may have worked! Spoke To dad today (to plead him to take me to the local college's Thursday evening show jumping) and he's decided he's going to get a Landrover defender for fishing that he will get me insured on for towing. Looks like I'll need to take my towing test now! Eeeeek!

practise with DAD as often as possible on public roads/land and if you have private land nearby you can practice reversing by yourself

I've had the same problem. I'm 23! Finally took the plunge to buy a 4x4 and a trailer this summer. I opted for a Peugeot 4007 (pretty much the same as a Mitsubishi outlander) and an ifor 505. The car itself only costs me around £10 more a week on fuel and I travel roughly 45 miles a day, 5 days a week. It tows 2 ton which is ample weight for a single horse and a my trailer. The insurance was fairly expensive but I managed to get an ok quote with Churchill. (it's still cheaper than having a small run around car and a 4x4 though! )

I went out a couple of times without the horse in with my very patient Mum (who has no idea how to tow) a few times and now we go out every weekend. Mum still sits next to me as I'm hanging on until the winter to take my test but I'm pretty confident so I'm just hoping a few lessons will do the trick!
