Hiya

I've just started taking Purdey, our 13 week old Springer, to the yard with me to do the horses. We have a crate for travelling which is fine in the 4WDs but too big for my everyday car. This car is a saloon so I can't put her in the boot but I'm not happy with her travelling loose on the passenger seat.

Is it okay to use a car harness on a puppy and can anyone recommend a particular one? Or recommend something else?

Many thanks for any replies

I'd be careful putting a puppy in a car harness just because even with a harsh brake you could probably damage them/pull muscles etc.
Also you may find pup is not too good at sitting still, or like my 18 month old will chew through the harness!!
Could you get a slightly smaller cage? Or one of those material ones as they are nice and light to move about

We used to move our back seats forward so there was no gap and put the cage in so it didn't move.
I use this car harness http://www.doggiesolutions.co.uk/softex-dog-car-safety-harness-908-0.html
really like it, comfy and padded and comes in lots of nice colours!

First time I travelled our youngest dog in car harness someone else was driving and as she is clicker trained I clicked and treated her everytime she sat/lay still which was very rarely to begin with! But she soon got the idea

Hope thats some help

She would be fine in a car harness. If you go to your nearist pets at home they should be able to fit one for you, the RAC also do a car harness that they sell at most Halfords, I would recomend the RAC one for a puppy as it has a little more padding for comfort!!!!!

Thanks for replies.

Think I'm going to give the harness a try, doggie growing fast so not sure how long a smaller cage would last.

She is sitting relatively still

for the few minutes it takes to get to yard, I take one of her toys to chew on though will see if she thinks harness more fun to chew

Longer journeys she falls asleep bless her, it's bliss

I use a dog control lead on my doggies normal harness, it clips into the seatbelt its adjustable length too, its the best one ive found as you dont need to change harnesses etc as most of the car harness are not suitable to walk your dog in so just short trips etc she wears her normal harness with this clipped in and long journeys she wears a special padded harness clipped to the dog control lead
