Any recommendations for the best dog car harness, something that's comfortable and doesn't rub. I've been looking at the Bergen one, does anyone have this one, if so how do you rate it?

Sorry no recommendation but i am interested and thinking of buying one. Are the dogs able to sit and lie down etc? And do you leave them on when walking normally?

I found proper car harnesses to be quite annoying, and my JRT could slip out of hers, even when it was done up tight. I now have a 'normal' harness, thick webbing and fleece lined, nice and comfy :) and I bought a dog seatbelt thing- its a length of strong material with a clip on one end (to clip to any harness) and a clicker on the other to go in the seatbelt clicker bit (sorry, am useless at technical terms!!). Obviously you need a comfy enough harness though, not one of the thin 'control' ones.
I prefer this as you can leave the harness on if you want. My girl is always lead in her harness because she pulls in a collar and hurts her throat, so its easier.
I got the clicker/harness thing from wilkos, was only about £2 I think.

I like the look of the Bergen one as it seems to be a nice wide webbing and a snug fit, hadn't actually thought about using just a normal harness.

The success of using a car harness would depend on how well your dog is trained :) if he's very wriggly and doesn't stay calm in transit, then it's unlikely to be a suitable option.

I've never used a Bergen, so I can't really comment on it, but it looks really nice!

I have used a RAC car harness in the past:

It does the job - and can also be used as walking harness.

I now have a 4x4 and use the area in the back for the dogs only, with a safety guard to ensure they stay there at all times:

Pre child my car boots were too small, & too full of speakers, amps etc for dogs. I always used some I got from wilkos, can't remember the brand but only a cheap one, think it was hertz. Thick webbing & padded on the chest, fully adjustable so it sat properly on any shape dog & range of sizes. Just clipped to the diagonal part of seat belt. Both a large & small dog had no problem sitting, lying etc in them, only difference was knowing they'd be protected in a crash or emergency stop. And you could clip a lead on too.
