Car Hit & Run - RIP Rusty Rhu

Hi there,

We're in the Isle of Man - things like that never happen over here, so it's devastated and shocked the whole Island. apparently the man is renowned for his hatred of horses and he has had some close calls with hackers in the past.

Sounds just like our nutcase, last time he came across 2 horses side by side, didn't wait for them to split and rode straight between then (on a very quiet narrow lane). Both horses ended up in ditches. there are other incidents too. Each time he flees the country (wonder if he goes to IOM esp with the IOM connection to bike racing)

What a terrible thing to have happened.

Thank goodness the police have got him.

I hope he does not get away with a few points and a safe driving course.

The law astounds me at times and I fear this xxxxhole won't suffer any great sentence.

We usually don't have anyone like that on the Island. Unfortunately for him, everyone now knows where he lives; so I'm guessing his life won't be very pleasant from now on.

We have TT fortnight coming up this Saturday so not many people will be hacking out due to the amount of bikes coming to the Island.

It's just so sad that one insensitive b*****d can ruin a family's life and make so many others question whether they should hack their own horses.

The bike rider said 'the horse rider looked as though she was in control and enjoying it, so I stayed close to keep it going, I shouted encouragement because I was excited'

"The attacker stated that the woman had given consent for sexual intercourse......."

I'd be taking it further I'm afraid.

Jenny, may I ask which area of the country you are in. Friend had a very similar incident with a motorbike last fri, horse bolted when bike rode at her revving engine, and bike took off in pursuit shouting yee hah ride em cowboy. He has openly admitted to the police that he hates horses and they shouldn't be on the road. Police want to prosecute (he has a track record) but due to lack of witnesses can't do him for dangerous driving (speed limit was 60 so he can't have been speeding when persuing horse). Crazy, he'll kill someone soon.

This was in N Herts

IMO bike rider should be put on a horse tied on! with hands behind his back, blind folded, nah disregard that he should be able to see his fate and taken on a team chase! and for all to witness how he rides them like a cowboy lol oh and bareback on a high withered horse! would be good so that his gonads are well and truly bruised for a few weeks!

Omg a 14 h pony of mine went ti isle of man called rusty hope it's not him

rest in peace rusty

why do a few people hate horse riders so much? if it wasnt for the horse paving the way for the modern world, they would not be able to sit in their cars and drive like idiots!

we need a THINK HORSE! campaign a bit like the ThINK BIKE! one

How very sad, thoughts with all :( I know this may sound an odd question but he isn't a fireman by any chance?

We are in Sussex & 3 years ago my daughter was involved in an incident with a man who drove into our horse on purpose!! Ten minutes before he had also driven at 2 other horse riders and sprayed them with gravel.

A few minutes after hitting our horse, he drove on and hit another horse, he completely knocked it down and horse and rider hit the deck :( Luckily they were ok but his hire car was badly damaged.

He was visiting his brother from the Isle of Man!!

Obviously we reported it to the Police but their attitude was "but he is a Fireman and normally attends RTC's" wtf??

He made it completely clear that he hated horses and we have no right on the roads, the Police took no action apart from "having a word" with him!!

That's awful, I don't think he's a fireman. He lives right next to the livery yard where Rusty was kept so he know's how many horses go hacking around that area.

What really got me is that he seen them a good 300 yrds away and just carried on into him.

I guess what needs to happen is for an individual to take a civil case against one of these drivers. Probably give them far more hassle (esp with insurers) than slap on wrist by Police.

What a horrible individual.....I think that his garden would make a nice muckheap!!!

speechless :(

I'm so sorry, and sure your friend is still distressed but, when she's ready, could you ask her to report the incident on the BHS horse accidents website http://www.horseaccidents.org.uk/ she may also like to phone her local BHS Welfare officer to see if they can offer any help or advise. If she doesn't know who that is PM me with area.

Unfortunately if our family's experience with Cindy is anything to go by he won't even get the safe driving course, just a few points and a small fine

My mum had to fight tooth and nail and appeal to get him a 3 month driving ban.

RIP Rusty

God Almighty, not another one. My chest is restricting as I write this. ******* people!
I hope he gets a serious punishment, but judging by what we've gone through, I doubt it.
If this had happened to a gypsies horse, they would have broken the driver's legs in revenge. It's times like this I wish we could take the law into our own hands. Poor creature - thank heavens the rider's ok (physically anyone).

This is a horrendous story, that poor horse and rider, the family must be devastated at the death and disgusted at that animal that was behind the wheel, i know its wrong, but he deserves to have 7 shades knocked out of him for such a selfish vile comment after inflicting these injuries, i really hope they lock it up and throw away the key ... He should be facing attempted murder charges of the rider

Has just heard some sickening news from my best mate. One of the horses she was due to hack out with today was involved in a hit & run by a car. The driver drove back to his home where the police arrested him, he then stated that he doesn't care as horses shouldn't be on the road. This horse was PTS due to 3 broken legs and horrendous wounds inflicted by the car; thankfully the rider escaped unhurt. RIP Rusty, you'll be missed.

We don't know what is happening to the driver as of yet.

I heard about this on Facebook, so sad how someone could have done that! Apparently he said that horses shouldn't be on the road! What a dick! Horses have been around much longer then cars and all he had to do was slow down for a few seconds and pass the horse! Such a cold hearted person...hope they lock him up and throw away the key! The sad thing is, he will probably only get about 18months or something for that!!! Where's the justice for the horse and rider?? RIP Rusty<3 Hope the ****ing ******** that done this to you rots in hell...*******!!

Thanks once again guys. I set up new road safety campaign over here last night and I've already had 200 people wanting to attend a meeting.

Any suggestions would be great!
