I am looking at buying a new car after christmas. the new is to me not brand new! I currently have a saab 93 which is fab on motorways doing 58 mpg, which as I sometimes do 300+ mile round trips for work is useful and means I make a bit on my travel claims. But its too light to tow safely and is useless on icy ground. it is very low to the ground as its a sports model which makes getting up the track to the stables 'interesting' at times.

I was planning to but a 4x4, to tow with, but I havent got a lost of spare dosh and pony is a veteran and at 21 next year is starting to show signs of leg problems so realistically I wont be competing the way I had planned to next year. hes also a bit of a git to load.

I am consdering either buying a small 'fun' type 4x4 like a rav or vitaria, or a sensible mis size family car with a decent boot to lug stuffa round in, or another saab as this ones so lovely but mega mileage on the clock hence wanting to sell it. It will be our only family car so I need a four seater for husband and sprog. My thoughts are that this would be sensible and I can save the money I would otherwise spend on a bigger 4x4 towards a youngster to bring on in a year or so. But on I did so want a big 4x4!!!

If you can manage with a single trailer have a look at the Skoda Octavia - excellent fuel consumption, well priced for what you get and will tow 1350Kg - or a single IW410 easy peasy.

Small fun car like a Rav wont tow but seem to be pretty good cars off road (my brother has one).

I would work backwards -i.e typical mileage and cost of that. We had an earlier posting and I suggested an LPG conversion and another poster warned you would need to make sure this was reflected on your tax certificate to ensure a lower car tax for you.

A friend bought an Audi estate to tow a single trailer with, but I am not a fan of those but her car was pretty solid.
