Car seat for tiny dog

Hi All

I've finally decided to have a Chihuahua and I'm so excited! Going to see one this weekend and I can't wait. It's going to be an adult one so hopefully not too bad with things.

I'm just starting to look into things I need to get for the dog, right on top of the list is the transport seat for my car. I've found this one: https://www.urbanpup.com/dog-clothe...on=1&strProduct=Car_Seat_Dog_Cradle&P_ID=1273

Looks like exactly what I was thinking of but as I'm quite inexperienced I'd like some opinions before I get it. Are there any obvious cons to this? I'll need this mainly for short journeys, to work, to the vet's and it would either go on the passenger seat or the back seat.

Personally I'd just use a small crate/carrier secured with the seat belt. I am not a fan of harnesses attached to seat belts, can put a lot of strain , particularly on a small dog , in case of an accident.
 
Thank you, that makes sense actually, didn't think of that. I just thought it'd be nice if he wasn't "locked up" in a box and could look out of the seat.
 
Could you put a small crate on somethnig to elevate it? As long as you made sure it was secure that might be the bes tof both worlds. Some dogs like to look out though and some find it intimidating and yap so perhaps see what he prefers?

My little terrier loves his travel crate - easier for him to balance & he mostly lies down and snoozes. We do have a seatbelt for him, and he seems to shifty from lying to sitting and back again a lot more than in the crate. He can just about see through the windscreen from his crate and sometimes he does sit looking out, but mostly he curls up and doesn't bother.
 
I bought a similar seat for Hector and he did seem to like it, but it was really not as stable as they have you believe, even after spending ages seatbelting etc it in. The seats themselves are not as stable as, say, a child seat.

Hector now just has a Polypad on the back seat, and a harness with a short seat belt lead (about 1 ft long and directly plugs into the seat belt receptacle. He generally just lies down and sleeps.
 
I would crate too. I made a huge mistake not doing this with my little dog. And now she's harnessed in the back. But I'd feel she was safer in a crate.
