We stayed on the campsite at Burghley this year in a motorhome and had a great time. But would you believe it, the place we got ours from doesn't have a vehicle available for next year :(. So I'm looking for recommendations/suggestions of where I can hire one for 2014. Ideally looking for a high spec caravan/motorhome for between 2 and 4 adults which would be already delivered and set up on site.
I know there were some mega ones that I saw this year but I wasn't nosey enough to ask where they had been hired from.
Many thanks in anticipation

We've just hired a motorhome from Discover.co.uk in Cheshire (near Tarporley). They have a fair sized fleet of rental motorhomes. Ours was in great nick, 2 years old, lots of extra included. Husband used it as support vehicle to student son's charity cycle ride, they were very impressed with it (first time of motor homing).

I don't know whether they'd set it up for you, but they do rent their motorhomes out for the Glastonbury music festival, and I assumed they sited them there too, but could be wrong on that.

Speak to Stamford Tourist office, they are really clued up about ways of getting to/staying at Burghley. Another way is to do what we did - for the cost of hiring a camper for one evemt, we bought an old but clean and sound caravan that has done three Burghleys and three Bramhams so far...!!

I still find the fact they don't allow people to stay over in horse boxes pretty shocking :( kinda blocking out the majority of their main market there!

If people stayed in horseboxes it creates two issues .One the number of people able to stay on a given area would be greatly reduced as only part of vehicle is accomodation(they are tightly packed) also they tend to be a lot heavier than motorhomes so undesireable as they are parked on golf course.
Also as mentioned above they can afford to be choosey as they will be full anyway

Oh its fine for myself - I have family living in stamford itself so I go there but the fact of the matter is compared to other events inc badminton it does come across rather snobbish that it is caravans only and motor homes with 'special permission'. Im also pretty sure the campsite could be placed somewhere other than the golf course!

The snobby bit is not you can't have horse boxes , a lot of us mere mortals cannot afford them or a motor home, the snobby bit is no tents ! Take up the same amount of space as a caravan/motor home remember most have awnings, so same pegs in the ground, but not allowed!

If you look at http://www.motorhomebusiness.com they actually have something like 8 depots that tend to have the newer motorhomes, but as well as that there is a big private network too, that is all over the UK. From what I can gather, the private ones are what they started off with and now they are moving over to the new depot ones. Either way, we rented one from a lady near Bridgenorth, Shropshire just for a family holiday. At the time we asked if it would be OK to take one to equestrian events too, she said that was fine. We booked it by speaking to Karen Maynard on 0800 612 8719.

LOL they are pretty short of space on the actual event site! I think they only allow caravans so as to try to be helpful to people who wish to,but they would prefer not to have any. Burghley Park is hemmed in on three sides so space is at a premium quite different to some event venues.
As you obviously know the site so well where would you put them and I will pass it on.

Popdosh - we stayed there this year in a motorhome and there were a number of RVs around us. Hence my question about possible suppliers of motorhomes/RVs - not whether they were allowed. However, appreciate you taking the time to reply

Yes but what I was suggesting was dont book one until you book tickets as you need authorisation from Burghley before you can take one!

A company called Sun Caravans used to do them. If you google them it should come up; assuming they are still in business. They are based in Lincolnshire somewhere.

No need to sound quite so uppity over it - I was merely mentioning the fact that burghley IS a large park and space probably could be utilised elsewhere for camping. Like I say, doesnt bother me, I dont need to camp there but I know plenty of people who would take the opportunity to camp there if they could...

And as for burghley only allowing camping to be 'helpful' I hardly think that is the only reason why......

OP you may find it more value for money and more comfortable to rent out a lodge close by or a local B and B. Caravan hires are hideously expensive for what they are - often the price of week abroad somewhere.

Thanks everyone so far. Just to point out that we stayed on site at the Golf Course this year in a motorhome and this is what we want to do again (so quite aware of what the costs are). Not interested in being off site as the whole point for us is not having to drive to and from the event every day.
Having stayed in the campsite at Badminton for around 4 years, I much prefer Burghley - mainly because it doesn't have tents and was much quieter
