Carcinoma

Hi there, my mare has just returned from vet college in dublin having successfully undergone surgery to remove both her udders due to a Carcinoma in her left one. I would love to hear from anyone else who may have experienced this with their mares as I have been told it is very rare for mares to get this disease in their udders. many thanks in advance

Yes, I know of one, so far as I know 2yrs on she is ok.

I know of one. Didn't have the tumour removed though and was doing very well two and a half years after discovery. Required careful cleaning and prevention of maggots in the summer and occasional bouts if antibiotics ( she was on steroids and had an initial course of some chemo therapeutics). She did have a minimally invasive type though with no spread to lymph nodes ( biopsies 6 monthly thereafter).

Here is a case report about a horse with the same thing. Not sure what the outcome was.

Thanks everyone, its great to know i'm not alone in this game!! Its still early days yet, but so far so good. Her lymph nodes were also removed, but so far there is no trace elsewhere in her body. Many thanks again
