Hello..I am often asked to turn out, bring in and change the rugs on other liveries horses, which I am happy to do and they have now offered to pay me to do it on a regular basis throughout the Winter.
The Yard Owner is happy with this and is encouraging me to do it.
My worry is, what if one if the horses had an accident whilst under my care? Would I or the Yard Owner be liable and would me being paid or not make a differerence? I have heard of a Care, Custody and Control insurance and wonder if any of you have this, recommend it and if so which company do you use please?
Thank you

Usually CCC cover only covers you for proven negligence so if there was a genuine accident it wouldn't provide any cover.

If you are being paid by the yard owner I would think they would need to have liability insurance

Care, custody and control is liability insurance though? It covers you for liability when handling other peoples horses when you are being paid. Its for the exact situation you describe.

If the liveries are paying you then you are liable, if the YO is paying then then you are probably classed as employed and they are liable.

I dont have it and cant recommend anyone but as far as I know KBIS offers it.

Edited to add the link to FAQs from KBIS

The other option would be grooms insurance from the BHS. But you need cover more specific to being paid to handle horses; the normal 3P liability won't be enough.
