Am thinking of applying an just really wanted to know if anyone else has done it. Good/ bad idea?
I know this should probably be posted somewhere else lol but more people in NL. :D
Thanks

My brother was in RA until recently & got to a reasonably high rank.

He loved it, our mother hated every tour he did. But he left because it wasn't a job you could settle down.

You need to think about what it is you want to aim for, then try asking people. I only briefly know about my brother and his friends, I haven't a clue what it's like for the mechanics / cooks / basic soldiers.

My COusin did for about 10 yrs or so - got quite high! Loved it.
IM not saying its going to be easy or anything!

It might be worth mentioning he did manage to get into Polo whilst in the Camps and ended up captaining a team doing international tournaments! Very jealous - - but i think it was a one in a 100 chance kind of thing

Good luck!
Have you chatted to the enrolement officer? they can give you some good pointers and at open days you can chat to officers and army people to get an idea of life. :)

I was in the Army for 22 years. There were good times and bad times. You have to weigh up what it is that you want. I wouldnt tell anyone not to do it but to thoroughly research it and take time to decide. I've only been out now 2 years and there are aspects of Army life that I still miss. If you do take the plunge I can assure you it will be a great education and can be of great benefit in the outside world when you finish.

My OH has been out of the Army for 18 months now. He had good times and bad times, he was in for only 8 years and did two tours both to Iraq whilst he was in. He was in Signals, did 3 years in Germany then 5 years in Bulford (near where we live). I personally dont like the instability of constantly moving around to be honest, it does depends on friends and family though and other commitments you might have. My OHs brother-in-law is the youngest Major in the British Army and hes been to 9 postings in 6 years!!!! They are now in Missiouri (America) until this time next year which will be his longest posting in 7 years.

I think you should go to the careers office, but it definatley isn't something you can ask other people for advice. It's such a personal thing.
My ex was in the army and he loved it. It changed him totally and not in a good way.

I would pop along to the careers office they will be able to advise you.

OH is in the army in the main I think he has enjoyed his time. I have enjoyed the posting and seeing places I would not have otherwise have seen. I hated the times that he was deployed. We are lucky now he is UK based but we got to go to Germany, Hong Kong and Kuwait which was an amazing 3 year posting. Good Luck
