Off we went to our 2nd PN. Very late times and we were so pleased... as we knew it was going to be hot. But was actually very very hot when daughter rode even though she was dressage 4.00ish!
They warmed up really well, not so long as usual because of the heat, and we were very pleased with test. Daughter all smiles as she came out of arena. But no! The judge hated it. Said is was hurried. So miserable score 43

Well now we know she has to go in slow motion. Horse can be very fizzy...but I thought they did great so shows how much I know!
SJ was just 30 mins later... horse very, very hot and clipping poles in the warm up. In they went & he met every fence perfectly and daughter rode him beautifully, but he just wasn't snapping up... 16 pens

So cooled him off as best we could and he seemed happier going into the XC...
Jumped 1st part of course well (and clear) but usually he just gets better and better as he goes round. Yesterday he didn't so daughter pulled up & retired.

I think as she is only 14 it was a very sensible thing to do. She just knew he was not on top form today.
We thought we had prepared well but, no it was not to be.
Spoke to Baileys nutritionist today at unaff SJ, where daughter took our baby ex-racer to jump, and she has suggested that its all down to electrolytes on such a hot week. So, as I have already said, we are on such a huge learning curve, and hopefully things will go better at our next outing... the BRC Horse Trials Champs.

What a shame, but good days and bad days - it's what horses are all about.

I agree that in heat like today, electrolytes are very important, and some horses will be far more adversely affected than others.

Sounds like your daughter has a wise head on her shoulders and did very much the right thing - there are plenty of adults that wouldn't!

Make sure you put it behind you, and try not to let it worry you too much for your next run

Thank you so much. I must admit, we felt very down afterwards, but today is another day... and much better! I am sure one of these times it will all come together. fingers xd!!

Never mind....you're daughter did the right thing pulling up. It was horribly hot there! I'm wondering if we were warming up at the same time, my dressage was supposed to be at 3.35 but I don't think I went in til 3.45??? I was on the chestnut in my siggy!

Yes the dressage got a bit delayed so we were in about 4.15 as it turned out.... but we didn't notice you... we looked at your report... well done you. You had a much better day than us! Congratulations & Good luck for your Champs...
