Hi guys,

On 28th March I did the first ode of the season, between fence 14-15 she suddenly stuck a few dodgy strides but then carried on as normal and proceeded to jump sound. Ground wasn't wonderful, quite deep and boggy in places.

Trotted up lame Sunday, crippled by Monday, scanned on Tuesday. During this time below the knee around check ligament area was swollen. Vet scanned but due to swelling couldn't see anything just big thick blood vessels. Box rest, bandaged and anti inflammatory injection and rescanned 10 days later. Scan much clearer and came to the conclusion carpal sheath was inflamed. She is still on box rest now and currently walking ridden 15 min a day and sound walk/trot with flexion tests. She is being re scanned Friday.

I was just wondering if anyone else's horses had similar and what was the outcome?
 
Pound-to-penny your horse has either a physeal spike remnant or a distal radial osteochondroma, Diagnosis is usually straightforward but small ones can sometimes be challenging and can only be viewed via the arthroscope.
 
Thank you for the reply. There doesn't seem to be much information on the Internet about prognosis - is this something that will have to be looked into with more depth or after rest it will disappear? Some sites are saying it'll need to be operated on. She is still currently sound - will she just go lame after bringing back into work?

Surgery is usually curative but obviously you want to be as sure as you can of the diagnosis before committing to cutting
 
Sorry stranger, I didn't realise you were an equine vet until I looked at your previous posts. I will mention the 2 suggestions you said to my vet and hopefully he will look further into it. it's interesting as there are few vet articles on either diagnosis and would like to read more in depth info :)
