Has anyone got the link to the full article on this? Or more info on why this change has come about?

Carpet fibre was previously a low risk waste product which didn’t require environmental permits etc but due to the dodgy way some companies have been acting this has now been changed.

Arenas were a convenient use of using recycling carpets but my understanding is they have microplastics etc much like rubber crumb which is a waste product and tricky to manage now

The Environment Agency have withdrawn carpet as not being environmentally friendly. Comes into force on 17th June. All carpets used on arenas and gallops are made of plastics so the plastic fibres get washed down the drains into watercourses (David Attenborough will be very pleased with this decision) and the floating plastic microfibres in dry weather get breathed in by horse and rider so not healthy either. Why on earth this plastic waste was sold in the first place beats me, it was blindingly obvious from the start what was going to happen.
