Help!

I read on here somewhere people advising to use old carpet to prevent the old muddy gateway problem (we're sinking to our knees - literally and metaphorically!).

Has anyone done this? Can you advise? When should I lay it and how do you stop it lifting at the edges and/or moving?

I assume it'll soak up some water and as it rots down grass will probably root in it - it this right? Is any one type better than another, e.g wool?

Thank you for your help! Any suggestions/advice would be very welcome!

or look for tree people and ask if they have any shredded stuff you could take off their hands.(mostly they use it for mulch) but if it is conifer it can be acid? and gardeners dont want that.worth a try.

It was me who posted about carpet!

You need to lay it BEFORE it gets too muddy & a good wool one is best, not the rubber backed type!! We picked ours up in a skip...!!!

Obviously it will not last for ever but we got 2 winters out of the last one.

fab, I'll give the local carpet fitters a call - hopefully I can get one they've pulled up!

Thank you for your help! Hopefully it'll dry out a bit soon!

We have a tree pruner come to our yard & he drops his shredded up branches on the track to the paddocks & we use some of this in the gateways, ideally before they get very muddy & it does quite a good job. Best thing about it is it's free.
