Hi everyone, I’ve read a few old posts on here as I’m looking to get some rubber matting for my stables and trying to decide which ones to get. I was going to go for Kraiburg but they’re about £600 to fit a 16’x12’ stable which is a bit over budget! A few people on the forums have said Carpetpac (on e-bay) are good and I wondered if anyone has these mats if you could let me know a bit more about them and if they will be suitable for what I want. The cost of these mats (including delivery) is £287 so a huge saving for me but I don’t want to cut costs if it means I don’t really get what I want. The main thing I want is mats which you can fit into the stable and they never need to be taken out. I have had a new stable built which has a drainage fall and all the water drains out of it. All I want to have to do to clean the stable and mats is power hose the tops of them and lift the corners up to power hose underneath. I think these mats are heavy aswell so I wouldn’t be able to move them to take them out. My concern is whether this will work with these mats as they have drainage ridges underneath, rather than studs like the Kraiburg ones. I assume this will mean that some of the mat will sit on the floor and so I’m wondering if I power hose underneath (by just lifting a corner) will the water still drain out ok and will the mats get smelly if some of the mat is touching the floor and I don’t take them out. However the company say you can fit these without leaving any gaps, so if this works ok I’m thinking that the urine shouldn’t go underneath. Has anyone fitted these mats without the gaps and if so do you find there are no problems? With most mats it seems they need gaps as they expand and contract in different weathers and I’m worried if they’re not fitted with a gap if they may warp, but I assume they don’t expand or contract as the company say can be fitted without gaps. (has anyone experience of this?)

I have Equimats in one stable and Carpetpac ones in the others- To be honest I prefer the Carpetpac to the proper equimats- you just literally put the carpetpac mats in and you can leave them there and they are fine!, yes they are heavier to handle, but they are cheaper too!, I didn't worry about fitting them with gaps or anything I just shoved them in the stables and hoped for the best!

I have had the 12mm ones since Feb this year with a full thick bed on top and they've been great.

They are a really efficient company to deal with too. But the only thing I would mention is that I did have a problem with the delivery of the mats, in that the driver of the courier company they use in Sussex decided to drive over the house owners lawn, causing over £500 worth of damage - I'm sure it was a one off so don't let that put you off! I would just make sure someone is there when they are being delivered!!

I got some Kraiburg Kenmats (the ones with the little feet on) about 8 years ago, they still look great, work brilliantly with a well draining floor and are worth the extra money.

That said I've got a set of Carpetpac ones too and they are excellent value in that price range. They are a little harder to sweep and not quite so thick but will still do the job if you lay them with the chanels going in the same direction as the drainage.

Don't leave any gaps if you can help it, fit them as tightly as possible or bits of bedding/pooh get stuck and are just horrible.

I've never really pressure washed or hosed down all that often as I've found the Fieldguard GreenGloop diluted in a watering can much easier and it smells lovely, you just lift a corner and pour the liquid where it's needed without getting everything soaking wet.
 
I've got Kraiberg and Carpetpac, they're both fine (not that they Carpetpac ones have seen much wear). We collected out Carpetpac mats and saved a fortune, if there is a group of you interested, you could hire a van/take the trailer and collect!?
 
Hi, thanks for your reply. Can I just ask did you lay the Kraiburg ones with a gap. I contacted Kraiburg and they said you need to as they can swell by 0.2% but I didn't really want gaps for the reasons you mentioned! Maybe I could lay them just with a gap between the wall but not between the mats as all the mats will be next to the wall aswell as each other. I'm really glad you mentioned about the drainage channels on the carpetpac and the direction as they're not going the same way as the drainage in my stables which would mean getting an extra mat and cutting 3 of them down so I may not get those now! Thanks for your replies. I'm not really sure what to do! Carpet pac sound good but not sure whether to go with those because of the drainage channels. I may hang off and see if Kraiburg have a sale on in the New Year! Does anyone know if you can get Kraiburg mats from anywhere else apart from through Kraiburg themselves? Maybe more chance of getting a sale price! I'm not sure about the carpetpac not being as easy to brush either. I've got a samlpe of the Robinsons ones being sent aswell but they look hard to brush as the same type of surface. Has anyone had good experiences of other makes? Thanks Lucyx
 
I have the 34mm EVA mats from Robinsons and they are really soft. They dry almost instantaneously and they are really easy to sweep out.

They dont have channels, but rather feet, so it doesnt matter which way you lay the mats.

They are also really light and I can lift and fit them myself.
 
i have carpetpac mats. i went to pick them up from them as only round corner and had the 18mm as seem much more durable due to going to be placed straight on ground in mobile stables.
You may think i would get water up and especially in winter but the neds have been dryer than in normal concrete stables due to the urine being able to seep away. they are very heavy and took a few tugs here and there getting them in place but very pleased with them as not budged etc.
 
Oh well just to let you all know in the end I went for the Kraiburg KENmats! Got them a bit cheaper by not having them fitted but not having the little studs under the carpetpac mats put me off, although they do sound very good value for money and I did pay nearly double for the KEnmats so hopefully it will be worth it!!x
