im driving for the first time tonight , and im clueless ! ive only ever sat in the passenger seat before now except once , when i drove a very experienced pony that knew his job up the drive for about 10meters lol . can anyone give me advice / tips for driving ?

Best advice I can think of is to make sure you are that you are sat next to someone who knows how to drive.

Or perhaps that is the plan ... your post suggests otherwise.

Ditto above. I've only recently started myself. I have a youngster we have worked hard with long reing etc and have just put her in a cart - I have driven her twice myself now once with me walking behind the cart on very long reins and the second time in the cart but with someone else walking behind with extended reins ready to take over. I also recently drove my first pair of heavies with an experienced driver next to me. The main thing is have someone who knows what they are doing with you.

Ditto the above. Make sure the person who is grooming for you is a very experienced driver, preferably an LHHI.
