Carrington Riding Centre?

I set up the equestrian team at salford university and we use carringtons every wednesday during term time. i say 'use' i think we tend to takeover! Lol. They are brilliant with us, really welcoming and if we ever have had issues with lessons etc, Sharon the owner has bent over backwards to help us. Can i ask op, what made you ask? xx
 
I ride there on a weekly basis - I love it for lessons/hacks but have no idea how the livery would be there and I think next summer I'll be in a better position to have a horse again. Just mulling over options - I think it's my best bet in the area but always good to get more opinions. The only thing that worries me is the ragwort problem - which is all over Carrington and surrounding area, not just this yard.
 
OMG that post made me sit up and take notice. I kept my horse there over 20 years ago. I knew the Groos very well. Wasn't aware they no longer owned it. Spent many very happy years there with an amazing group of fellow liveries who were also very good friends. If it is half the yard it used to be you won't go far wrong.
 
I'm told there were cases of grass sickness there a few years back. Certainly the ragwort is a major problem in that area, and some of the fencing looks dodgy - I drive by every day on my way to work.

That's my concern. I think it's the farmer behind the stables who does nothing to stop the ragwort (his fields are 99% covered!) so they are stuck with it spreading.
 
Yes - I go at 5pm if I'm working from home or 6pm if I have to commute back home from the office to get changed, but they teach until 9 I believe. They also have a horse simulator which looks amazing, I want a go!! Let me know how you get on if you do try them!

I would advise against trying John Shaw and Glen Jakes - two other riding schools in the area.
 
Oh wow, I always wanted a go on a simulator :D Will give them a call, thanks for your help :) Always good to have something to pass the time in the evenings so I don't have to sit in a pub/B&B on my own like a loner!
 
Ah i cant give my opinion on livery im afraid but yes Faye is an amazing teacher, trained in classical seat. I cant fault Sharon the owner, she literally goes well out of her way to help you! There doesnt seem to be any yard bitchiness and they wont take any 'summer helpers' in the form of children unless they are trained to at least bhs1. Honestly cant fault it, and the simulator is wicked!!
 
Also as for grass sickness/ ragwort, they are incredibly careful with their fields and i havent known a sick horse simce goin, there is one pony in the fields thats skin and bone...but thats because hes 40!... what ragwort? ;) x
 
Aww I think you are talking about Beauty who sadly passed away recently! :( Unless they have another oldie I've not met.

I've not picked up on any bitchiness and everyone does seem lovely - would be good to have insider knowledge! Can't really go up to someone who has a horse there and say 'So is it really as nice as it seems then?' :D hehe.

Hopefully all goes to plan with house and work so I can look into liverying there next summer, fingers crossed.

Moon, I will say hi to you if I ever see Salford Uni riders - I ride Thursday nights usually though!
 
Aww make sure you do! :) we'll be back runnin riot as of september. Cant believe Beauty has died! Am gutted! always loved seein her moochin round the field like a little decrepid creature hehe x

If it is she'd have been one of the ponies I learnt to ride on about 24 years ago and I don't think she was a youngster then. Maybe there's been a Beauty number 2.
 
It was the same beauty. Such a gem of a pony. Absolutely ancient but just kept going. The end came suddenly I believe. Bless her. Also I don't think they actually offer livery any more. There has not been any grass sickness cases on this land and the fields are carefully managed to try to accommodate the sheer number of riding school horses!

The ragwort comes from dainewell yard who do nothing about theirs.
 
Mattydog - the Groos's were North Cheshire Equestrian Centre, Ackers Farm, not Carrington (although noth technically Carrington). They sold up a few years ago now - funded the divorce!
 
Both were Groos'. I think Ackers was Trevor? CRC belonged to the old man then it went to one of the other sons. Do they not own it anymore then?
