Morning all
I know a lot of you will be wondering what the latest is with Carrot and Spud. You'll appreciate, I'm sure, that there really is a limit to how much I can say on a public forum. However, the latest (10 minutes ago) is that they are both doing absolutely as well as could be hoped for at this point. They are having some of the underlying issues addressed and I really don't think we could hope for them to be any better than they are now. As you know, we don't want their location to leak out (a bit late perhaps but I am not going to make things worse) but I would just like to say what a brilliant job is being done with and for them by their temporary home. Thank you to them.
Thank you to all of you who have donated and especially to B_2_B who organised the Just Giving page. There is about £1500 on there which is fantastic and will go to very good use.
As a consequence (I guess) of this case we have received a massive increase in the number of welfare concerns being reported to us. This can only be a good thing (I think!) but it does mean that we are absolutely snowed under at the moment. So to the many of you who have PMed me or emailed me / BHS Welfare, I am sorry if I/we have not got round to replying yet. We will, but we are just so busy and I am sure you would rather we concentrate on the horses. We will reply asap but we're run off our feet, Things are hectic normally so we're mega stretched now! Thank you though for all of your support and particularly to our brilliant members.
The other thing is I received a PM from B_2_B asking me to post more details about BHS membership. I don't want to be accused of being too pushy etc so I have pasted the PM below to prove it:
Hi Lee,
A few people have mentioned how memberships are more beneficial than donations.
But I know I, and probably others, don't have much idea at all about what membership entails.
I was wondering if you would make a post on here about what members get out of joining, what the BHS gets out of having members, and just more general details, if you get some spare time?

Apologies to B_2_B if I shouldn't have done this but your name is on the Just giving page so I hope you don't mind. Anyway, I asked our Director of Communications to provide me with some more info so here is what she sent me:
"The British Horse Society would like to thank everyone who has donated or joined as a member following the rescue of the Stamford Horses. No one works harder than the BHS or with more success to improve standards of horse welfare and safety, increase and protect bridleway access, educate riders and horse owners, provide great membership benefits and inspirational riding experiences. The BHS is YOUR charity so you really should join us.
To answer the question are memberships more beneficial than donations we appreciate both. With more members behind us, however, we have increased ability to lobby and campaign on issues that affect horse welfare. If you really dont wish to join the Society a regular monthly, quarterly or annual donation can be made online by direct debit. Just visit www.bhs.org.uk and click the Join Now or Donate Now buttons on the right hand side.
Many people join The British Horse Society to support the charitable work they do whilst gaining access to a wide range of valuable personal benefits. The benefits of our Gold Membership include:
· Personal Liability Insurance up to £10 million for all the horses you own, look after and ride, regardless of age. (Terms, conditions and territorial limits apply)
· Personal Accident insurance up to £15,000. (Terms, conditions and territorial limits apply)
· British Horse magazine delivered to your door six times a year, the UKs highest circulating equestrian magazine, packed full of useful advice, entertaining features and the latest news and information from the BHS.
· Free access to a legal helpline and advice on a wide range of equestrian topics
· Special offers throughout the year, including free tickets to the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead
· Entitlement to take BHS qualifications and equestrian careers advice
· In your local area committees supporting you and providing information on BHS competitions, social and training events taking place near you
Thank you in advance for any support by donation or joining as a member."
On a personal level, I would like to thank all of our members and donaters - everyone of you gives me more money to spend on welfare which I think is the most important thing we can be doing - THANK YOU
Cheers
