Carrot & Spud - good news!!!!!!!!!

That someone could let those poor horses get into such a state is beyond me... Well done to all those involved who have given those pony's a life worth living, you all deserve medals. It's heartwarming to see the improvements

Now seeing the last photo flipped by kandm I see it is the same horse after all. I was 75% sure it was a different horse myself and was confused by talk if flipping pictures and the like

Carrot must have some spark in him to recover from that state, the video really shows just how poor they were!!!

oooooh I'm sat at work with tears welling up in my eyes - thanks for texting me Slinks!!!!
So so pleased to see the boys now..... what a fantastic job Bransby have done with them..... I've still got the original pictures that were taken that day in Stamford, so shall dig them out later and post them......
Cant wait to go and visit now!!!

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. So pleased that all the effort paid off and how handsomely!

Honestly, which people left on the earth have never seen pics - and this even happens in the Mother Magazine - with throatlashes apparently fitted on the off side of the bridle?

It puzzled me til it was explained, as several others have done, that the image is flipped. That happened in the days of 35mm, so it's not like the digital crowd have started messing about. Thank you KandM for the illustration

I have no idea why they do it, though

Not the same horse... (hrrrumph)

Absolutely fantastic! You lot who jumped into action that night to rescue those two are all heroes in my book. I know that the best reward for you all is to see how well spud and carrot are now and the comfort of knowing that they will spend their final days in a lovely home.

ps I used to help make marketing stuff and the old photos were on transparencies so we could flip the photos either way - fine until there is writing on it and it comes out as perfect mirror writing in the published material - so speaks the word of experience who got a good telling off for the mistake!!!. So there is absolutely no doubt the photos are both of Carrot.

I cant recall ever seeing anything about these 2 before and am absolutely shocked by their condition, can someone please link to the original post when they were "found" so I can read the background.

Well done to all involved, they look much much better now and so lucky to have another chance.

I can do you a short summary
smile.gif

Guy who knew nothing about horses registered and posted about them and pics and what he should do. They (and other neighbours) had reported them to RSPCA numerous times over the past year or so. RSPCA had got a vet to check them very recently and said they were fine they were just old hence the RSPCA didnt seize them.

This resulted in numerous hho members, BHS welfare top man (lee) and the RSPCA being there the following day with a vet, in the afternoon and them being seized and removed to barnsby that afternoon.

edited to add some links!

Totally made my day to see the difference in those 2 ponies. I find it hard to believe that carrot could still stand the way he was. Have you any idea how old they are?
What about the original guy, andy, who posted here to ask about them in the first place. Does he know how well they are doing.

Both of them are over 30!!

They have both lost teeth - on the day of the rescue the vet gave them a condition score of zero for Carrot and 1 for Spud

. Carrot weighed around 195kgs and Spud was about 210kgs.

They have been eating their way back to health ever since they arrived!

I spoke to Andy before Christmas to update him and Chloe and have sent him the link for Bransby - they are planning to go up and see them soon.

Fantastic progress they have made and totally different to that awful first visit to see them. I honestly thought they might be beyond saving, especially Carrot.

So pleased they are doing well and thriving with the love, care and attention. Well done Bransby and everyone else.

TBH I'm amazed that Carrot survived he looked so dreadful and at that age, what a wonderful job the people at Bransby have done.

TBH I think most of us who saw them there that day thought Carrot may have to be PTS there
frown.gif
- the journey to get them to Bransby was fairly traumatic (I was following!) as it was over an hour away and obviously the concern was if they had the strength to make the journey without falling etc. Even though they made the journey obviously condition scores of zero meant they were a huge concern but at least their remaining time would have been caring and comfortable.

BUT as you can see all is well that ends well - both are happy and well.

Brilliant news on all counts and everyone who was involved at the time ( and those offering support since) should be proud of what they achieved in rescuing those two poor little souls.
The video taken by Kerilli is truly shocking and depicts just how close to death Carrot really was.
I truly believe that neither would have lasted this winter especially with the weather we have had. Neither do I think Carrot would have lasted much longer after their plight was raised on here without the intervention that was so very much needed.
Bransby is a terrific place and I always enjoy reading their newsletters when they have turned around the lives of equines in their care.
I hope Carrot and Spud enjoy plenty more years of life at the centre so that they can enjoy the retirement life they should have been receiving in the first place!
