I carry a whip whenever I ride but mainly for me to get used to riding and holding one. I never use it on the pony I ride but was always told to take one out with me when hacking just in case.
Yes I was confused, I used to carry a vintage hunting crop to help with opening of gates, and to get spooky chap used to things happening around him, I have sold it now [£130].It's a whip not a crop, unless it's a hunting crop. I never carry one, no need and never have.
Exactly, I am sure everyone has been hacking and heard that fast moving vehicle coming, put on a please leg yield aid and got nothing, aren't you just glad you are carrying a stick at that point !.
My personal view is - anybody who hacks out without a stick is nuts, I also don't go with the comment - the horse won't carry a stick, it will if you train it and only ever use a stick appropriately.
Always. If I don't need it I don't use it.
