I know it can't be helped with good old british weather and all that, but my 4yo absolutely hates it! I am trying to get him out hacking a bit more to further his education, (he is very insecure).
I took him out this week on his own, (friend walking by the side), he was a bit spooky, not a problem, head up high as looking at everything, again nothing that was bad.
We did tracks first then a ten minute country road ride back home, all in all about a 30 min ride.
But when we got onto the road there was a van approaching us from the front, he was ok plodding along then as soon as it came up alogside us it splashed through puddles, Tommy spun round in the road and stood there shaking, quite shocked it seemed by what had just happened!
Now, my question to all you knowledgeable people who have had and do have youngsters is, What is the best way to handle this? Will it get any better in tinme?
My thoughts are- Take him out only with others until he gets a bit more used to things? I constantly beat myself up that he needs to get out on his own for his education?
It is not a problem going out with others as there are a mother and daughter in the village who ride out on two bombproof horses, who are always asking me if i want to hack o ut with them.
Sorry if this has turned into a bit of a ramble, but i just need a bit of advice really

Next time it's wet and there's likely to be puddles try and get company with a horse that doesn't bat an eye lid.
If your lad sees the other horse doesn't react hopefully he'll learn that the splashes aren't sharks jumping out to eat him and it poses no harm.

The mother and daughter in the village sound ideal :)
