Has any one on here had a cartilage opp. I was in hospital yesterday having key hole on mine. Cant do much today managed to hobble down stairs and during the day hobble to the loo and actualy managed to cook dinner tonight. Have exercises to do but cant do them all, leg just wont work!!
Bored out of my brain, sounds stupid but feel quilty lying on the sofa all day, but cant do much else.
I know its early days, feeling very sorry for myself, and I know there are a lot of people worse off than me!
Sorry to be moaning, but how soon will I be able to walk.
So if any one had the same opp please me know, thanks .
Ps im going to be like an elephant too, no exercise and eating chocolates OMG lol

I smashed my knee up and had a massive lump of cartilage taken out key hole. Is that the sort of thing you mean?

That mended in a few days, then I had another surgery to replace the ligaments I had destroyed which took a bit longer to get over as they actually had to cut me and drill the bone etc

My OH had this op in December on his knee. initially it was going well and he was up and about in no time. It then got worse and he is now, in May limping round and in pain. however one of my work colleagues partners got this done about a week later and is the same. To be honest, although it's a minor procedure, it's quite a long recovery period. If you can cope wiith being lame for a while you'll be fine. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! x

O just thought. My farrier had it done and said he was ok in a week and he was back to work within ten days. Says it's fine now :)

Not yet, but will find out on Monday whether or not I've got to have a cartilage implant op, or keyhole to remove fragments lf bone and cartilage....been on crutches since beginning of December after being assaulted on a night out :-(

OMG Jesstickle, mine sounds nothing compaired with yours, I just had to have carilage trimmed and joint washed out. Guess I wont push myself too quick Holly Hocks, want to event by July fingers crossed

Trouble's sounds worse. that is truly vile you poor, poor thing.

Mine was a really common op. Loads of people have it. I couldn't walk for about four months but mine was particularly unstable for some reason, most people can walk on it before they have it fixed but I couldn't as it would collapse. Luck of the draw I guess!

Hope you heal up quickly, I'm guessing as my farrier is back at work you should be ok for July. I'll cross my fingers for you anyway :)

Mine is still really unstable and gives way every so often. outlook is better now than it was looking, they were talking about a full knee replacement for a while, which is a scary prospect at the age of 31!

I accept getting hurt by a horse, intake that risk, but I was out with work friends at our Xmas party, some random chav stormed our group, hit my friend in the face and kicked me in my knee.

I had cartilage & clear out done on my ankle- up and about fairly quickly but advised not to ride for 4-5 wks only just managed to stick to that and am now back riding-find leg gets tried quite quickly but at least NO PAIN!!!!

I want to say the F word I really do. Absolute scum. Did the police at least deal with it?

Nope. He ran off (the nasty part of me hopes he was run over by a taxi as he legged it) whilst everyone was trying to sort me out.

You poor thing, does that mean you havent ridden since then? I feel a right whimp now, christ its only been a day for me, As I said there is always someone worse off Hope you get sorted, keep us up to date GOOD LUCK !

Lol sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread!

Nope, not ridden since, worst part of that is I had bought a new horse four weeks before it happened!

OMG I cant believe it you poor soul, sorry but thats made me feel better, if you know what I mean. You poor poor thing Makes me feel very humble!!

I've just had knee surgery- twice on the same leg. Well i say just the first was in May last year and the second in october! I snapped my ligament and tendon in the knee, dislocated the knee cap, had practically no cartilage left behind in and displaced my tib and fib by the knee (to make a long story short!). I now have an artificial ligament screwed in, artificial cartilage lining the kneecap and what feels and looks like a million screws, pins and plates holding it together. And after all that I found out last week it hasnt worked and isn't going to get any better and no one can tell me if I'll be able to walk unaided again- at a grand old age of 25!!! But in a slight bit of fairness to them they did only give me 17% chance of success........so all I can is I wish you the best of luck, fingers toes (and knees!) crossed all is good for you :) Just make sure you do as they say-rest means rest and do your exercises when they say!! It may be annoying to rest and painful to exercise but if its going to help do it :D ! x
