Vets out today to take stitches out after anular ligament cut and to re-scan. Hole is (obviously) still there and they are coming out on Monday morning to inject with stem cells. I am walking her out in hand for 5 mins a day and she is feeling rather well and showing a particular flair for passage on the end of the lead rope, growing to 18hh and developing an Arabs tail

Another 3 months of box rest

She is being so cool about it and Im letting her have access to the yard while Im mucking out as she is being sensible atm. We are looking at probably 8 months until she is competition fit.

They scanned her other leg as the anular ligament in that one was beginning to swell, but thats fine (atm).

Request HHO vibes for a speedy recovery

Fingers crossed that the stem cells do their work and Cass continues to be a model patient!

I think since Grace had her diagnosis to being competition ready it will be nine months. I know everyone says this, but I have to admit, now we are coming to the final furlong it feels a shorter time than that. That is if she manages to keep herself out of trouble!

Thank you all so much, but it looks like I may have to retract this thread - Cass has lamped the wall in temper (Fred was winding her up in the next stable) and her leg has swollen quite badly and full of heat. Have hosed and ice packed. Just spoken with vets who say if the leg is that swollen, they wont be able to do the stem cell implants

I have to keep hosing and ice packing as often as possible. She can no longer come out of her stable either.

Why is it that things never go according to plan?

Sorry this has delayed Cass's recovery Helen, will be over to see her on Weds after our vets visit with Moonlight.

Take care,

Deb xx

Typical horses always doing something daft!

So sorry it is swollen, hopefully all the hosing and ice will bring the swelling down in time.

Let us know how she gets on.

Fingers crossed for you both.

xx

Typical horses - they just don't know when to help themselves do they! Mine did that on box rest too, such a nightmare.

Hope the swelling goes down quickly and that you can get on with the stem cell injections.

Best of luck.

Thanks DT, isnt it just typical! Vets should have been here at 10am to see if the swelling had gone down enough for the stem cells, still havnt arrived yet. Cassy's leg is still swollen, but half the size it was and not too much heat. Part of the problem is that the leg will automatically swell when the vets insert the stem cells as the body is rejecting the foreign body, so we may have to wait until this swelling has subsided

Will update after vets have been.

Hi Becky

Unfortunately Cass has an infection from what they say is a bandage rub below her fetlock and they couldnt risk giving her the implants today, sooooo 5 days Trimed and 5 days bute until Friday and see how she is then. At least I can start to walk her out to graze again.

Let this be a lesson to us all ... throwing a temper tantrum does not work

At least it is nothing more than an infection... that is good news for Cass!

Sorry you are having to wait a bit longer, but the healing is taking place anyway inside and like you have said, you can still walk her out to grass.
