My young lad managed to get himself cast last night! Got up to yard this morning and he was stuck against the wall. Luckily he didn't panic and laid there until we managed to flip him over. He got up, has a good shake and ate his breakfast. He is bedded on shavings which don't really compact enough to make bankings. Is there anything I could do to prevent this happening again? I had thought about putting straw bales round the sides?

My baby is on shavings, you can make great banks you just need to use lots of shavings and build them up, I give mine a good bash down then keep adding more and bashing until I've got good square banks, its no good if you just flick them up. My banks are great!! Xx

He's only 7 months old so a roller isn't an option. Silly question but how do you get shavings to compact to make banks when they are dry? He doesnt poo or pee on his bed so its always dry.

Lots and lots of shavings, keep pressing them down and don't lift the banks every day.
Is he in all night and he doesn't do any poos or wees? That would worry me.

What I meant was he keeps his bed clean and poos and wees in the other corner. He is a tidy boy that way. I will try adding more shavings around the sides and packing it down.
